Right about October 1st each year, my hubby and I like to start watching scary movies to get in the spirit of Halloween. We've done this for quite a few years now, so this year we are hunting for new (to us) scary movies to watch.

We really loved the Haunting of Hill House on Netflix that came out a few years ago. We also have watched all of the Halloween movies with Michael Meyers.

So my question for you is, what is a good scary movie/TV show that I should add to our "to watch" list?

I'll start because since I made this original post, my hubby and I started watching Teacup on Peacock. It's pretty spooky and really wacky because I am two episodes in and I'm not quite sure what's going on. But it's creepy for sure! There are only 2 episodes per week and they are about 30 minutes each. Two more came out today, so I'm hoping to watching those when my hubby gets home tonight. :agree
 
I gotta be honest, I am NOT a scary movie person. The scariest movie I ever saw was called "White Noise" and it still freaks me out!
 
I’m not a scary movie person either. Honestly I think the scariest movie I have seen is Beetlejuice when I was a teenager. And From Dusk till Dawn, but that was more crazy than scary.
 
The scariest movie ever that I saw was back in the 1970's:
The Night of the Living Dead.

I'm not a big help in this either. Scary movies have one of two effects on me.... 1. they are realistic and freak me out - which I don't like LOL or 2. they are unrealistic and I end up laughing through the whole thing because it is just stupid.
Hmmmm what would I list though.... Maybe the Sixth Sense from 1999
 
I am NOT a scary movie fan, but started watching Midnight Mass. It's listed as horror on Netflix, I hope I have not made a mistake watching it. I am enjoying it so far. EEK!
 
My husband and I are also doing a scary movie season. We did A Nightmare on Elm Street (classic), the original Halloween, and the new Salem's Lot (which was gorgeous but should have been a mini series because there was so so so much more in the book!)

We watched the remakes of It last December and so so so good. My husband also loves The Thing but I insist that's a mid-winter movie, not Halloween ;)
 
Not watched any horror, since on accident and bad advice I saw the Silence of the Lambs (my maiden name is Starling, so somebody thought it should be enough of the reason). My husband took me to the cinema once to see Blair Witch project, made me queasy and ensured I stayed away from the genre for years...
I have recently (2013) watched a few episodes of Hannibal, since then nothing of the sorts, no thank you kindly
 
I don't like horror movies, I prefer a good thriller or mystery, but this one is a must watch: The Shining

I'm usually ok with scary movies but for some reason, Blair Witch really freaked me out. I feel like the Hannibal books jumped the shark after the first one.

YES! My favorite scary movie of all time.

I also love a good funny scary movie. Two favorites are Sean of the Dead and Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil.
 
Oh, and I love the whole Annabelle/Conjuring franchise. Nice and scary but not too gory. My daughter liks to look up the jump scares in advance so she knows to expect them. :D

I love Jamie Lee Curtis so I watched all of the Halloween movies in order on Halloween last year which was kinda fun.

Another super scary one: As Above, So Below -- very creepy and clautrophobic.
 
I don't watch movies much in general anymore, and never liked horror. But I can suggest a scary post-apocalyptic sort of movie I watched based on a friend's recommendation last year, while we were talking about Stephen King novels. I had told her that the only Stephen King novel I've ever read is 11.22.63 (because it's not so much horror as history) and I probably wouldn't ever read any others because I dislike the horror genre. She said that I should try watching The Stand. If I recall correctly she thinks the movie is better than the book. I didn't love the movie, but it was fascinating, for sure. I had to fast forward some ugly and violent scenes.
 
I generally don't like gory, scary movies, but I like Anne Rice's books so just recently watched Mayfair Witches.
 
I really don't like scary movies at all, but I did watch The Raven with John Cusack last year and I loved it! It was based off of Edgar Allen Poe, obviously, which is about as scary as I get!
 
My husband, who is a movie buff, has a recommendation. He said this was so scary he had to stop and come back to it later. The Autopsy of Jane Doe. He saw it on Netflix and it has a lot of "body horror."

If you want something less scary but still very creepy, The Vast of Night, available on Amazon. The whole film feels like a spooky story told around a campfire. Less gory.
 
I don't like scary movies at all, maybe because I was like 8 years old when I saw the movie Wrong Turn. I don't want to watch it again as an adult, though it might not be scary anymore. Maybe it was never scary, haha.
 
I love horror movies!! Did you try asian horror movies/tv shows?
Ju-on (movie), The Eye (movie), Train to Busan (movie), Sweet Home (tv show), #Alive (movie) just to name a few.
I'm watching the second part/season of Gyeongseong Creature right now.
I don't know why the korean ones left me in tears most of the times, lol, there is a high percentage of emotion IMHO.
And I try to watch 'Halloween' by Carpenter every Halloween if I can.
