Day 31: Pocket Page Challenge

Phew! You made it! Welcome to our very last day of Month of Challenges. On behalf of the entire staff here at The Lilypad, thank you so much for spending this month with us. We hope you've stretched yourself creatively, learned something new, been inspired...and most of all, had FUN. So, let's get to it...

Pocket scrapping can take on many different forms from daily documenting to general overview and a variety of styles as well. I find that my approach varies depending on how much scrapping time I have and my topic. I always try to keep my memory keeping fluid and adaptable. So, let's do a Pocket Page! For the purpose of this challenge, we're going to focus on HIGHLIGHTS.

The challenge to is to convey the highlights of a day, week, month, or even an event in pocket format using photos, journal cards and journaling.

Your page must be be in a pocket format, however, you do NOT need to use a page protector unless you wish to do so. I've provided this guide for a standard pocket page placement, but you're free to use the format/template of your choice as long as the it clearly reflects the pocket style. Your page can be any size, from a 6x8 to double page 12 x 12 as long it meets the requirements below.

Requirements:
Use a pocket page format. (Need help? See this category in the shop for pocket templates.)
Your page must contain the word "Highlights" in the title.
Your page must contain at least 3 photos, one of which 4x4 or larger.
Your page must contain at least 2 journal/pocket cards, one of which must be 4x4 or 4x6. (You MAY use paper to create these.)
Your page must contain at least two sentences of journaling in your own words.

Here is my page:

The Nitty Gritty:
Your page must be a new page in order to count for the Month of Challenges. Please post your page in your page thread you created in this forum. You should have one post per completed challenge page. If you complete all 31 challenges, your thread should contain 31 posts. Please do not comment in the participants’ page threads so we can keep them clean. You should also post your page here in this thread, and people can comment here if they wish. Pages should contain at least 75% current Lilypad product (currently for sale in the store from either permanent designers or guest designers.

Yay! Great challenge to finish with. Off to go find photos to use but will probably have to wait until tomorrow to get started.

Valorie Wibbens has some pockets that don't take up the whole page. Is that ok? Thanks! Last challenge! Whew! It's been fun!

Already thinking of this. Hadn't anticipated "Highlights" but then your example answered that for me. Pocket scrapping was on my list for next week, just a head start.

Wow, a month's worth of challenges almost done.
Love the pockets too, so will be back soon with mine.

I'm brand new to all this digital scrap booking.
What are pocket pages exactly? Something that is packed full of photos? That slides into an album pocket?
And what are journal/pocket cards exactly? Can it be just a solid paper? Or does it need words on it? Are these in addition to the two sentences of journaling?
This is the first challenge that I'm not sure what is meant. That's the point though - to learn! :)

Oh, and are you allowing a double page spread?

A pocket page is basically a blocked design that includes photos and journal cards. It is meant to imitate the style of sliding things into an album pocket, though for the purpose of this challenge a protector/pocket isn't required. It might help you to take a look at our Memory Pockets Monthly gallery. The majority (though not all) of the layouts in there are pocket style. Journal or pocket cards are typically 4x6, 3x4 or 4x4 pieces that are used to add both writing and decoration to the page. You can see all of our journal cards in the shop here, but for this challenge you are allowed to make your own from paper. It's up to you whether those cards will be "filler" (meaning just decorative) or whether they'll have journaling. As long as you meet the journaling requirement, it doesn't matter which you do. Yes, you can do a double page spread.

Trying to figure out how to meet the challenge requirements using an 8.5 x 11 inch format...

This will give you some ideas (or you can buy it but the ideas are there) for a layout -- usually they are 3x4 and 4x6 spaces (but you might have to shrink a little). or you could do like a 6x8 layout and put it in the middle or somewhere around your page. Hope that helps.
