Journaling:
Back to 1999 — headed ninety miles away to a rustic church camp tucked tucked into Prescott National Forest eager to begin our weekend of documenting our stories with paper and photos.
A joyful chaos of physical photos and overflowing tote bags stuffed with supplies, cropping tables crowded with stickers, stencils, adhesives, and those busy at work.
“Retro Red” kicking us off with Paul Simon’s Kodachrome — the official anthem of the weekend. Beneath the music, the steady hum of laughter from a group of women who have turned this into an annual pilgrimage.
I transitioned to digi around 2009, bringing a great reduction in to the "chore" of analog prep—meticulously planning and printing photos. Despite the shift to easier tech, the essence remained: a creative escape defined by "Retro Red" the DJ and a shared focus among friends.
Hearing that song today takes me right back to those early, rustic days, reflecting the satisfaction of a "job well done" and the warmth of tradition. It captures a chapter where time was measured in pages completed—a reminder that while mediums change, the impulse to preserve our stories remains the same.
