I have wanted a fireplace or a wood stove ever since we moved into our house almost 18 years ago, but it just hasn’t happened. So when we rented a cabin with a fireplace and the weather was cold and damp, it felt obvious that we should buy some firewood and light a fire. What we didn’t expect was how much smoke would come into the room—it seemed like the damper wasn’t working properly. But it was still quite cozy, even though we ended up completely smoked out in the process
