I just got the February book, and am reading it, but I'm probably too late for the discussion. Maybe I'll be more on time for this month. Since The Lake House has the most votes so far, I went ahead and put a hold on it at the library.
Of course I'm too late to vote again! Every friggin month. Not that my one vote would have done anything to the outcome this time around. But still.
YAY! The Lake House is the Winner! It's my type of book so I'm super excited! Will get chatter thread posted in a bit!
I don't want to sound like a stinker, but I was hoping for Big Little Lies cuz I already planned to read that next on my Kindle. But The Lake House sounds good so it's not like I can complain about reading that instead.
I went ahead and started the Lake House last night. But ... we have got to start choosing shorter books!
I'm 3rd in line on the library waiting list so I guess I'll have to try Half Price Books on Wednesday and see if they have it.
can i post a suggestion that when we nominate or whatever we add a page count? i know sometimes this varies btwn the ebook and the paper copy but i struggle over 500 pages in general - not sure what that is in audio but about a 16hr book is my mental limit there too especially if the 'blurb' doesnt do much for me
When I do the voting I link to each book which I think would show the counts but I confess I never check lol...but not all ebooks the counts are the same even. If you guys want to post it when you nominate, I'll be sure to add it in on the voting threads
Blah! Down with short books! lol! Books should all be 800 pages and in series of at least 3 or more. Ha ha! If I spend THAT much time with characters... I might actually remember them. I actually just read a shorter book last week. It took my two days because it was light hearted, funny and good. I'll be sure to put that in for next month's nominations... it was I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella.
i think any book here should be able to float on a lilypad, 800 pages would sink it easy! (otherwise maybe 800pages needs to be bi-monthly (or whatever the word is for giving me 8 weeks reading time ) i big red puffy heart Sophie Kinsella - i started one of the Shopaholic books yesterday
I remember when I was a kid I often felt sad at the ends of books because series were less common than they are now. I guess a lot of today's authors felt the same way and decided to fix that problem.
Oh i have Lake House on my Nook already I will start it next. I was never able to get last months book.
I have no problem with big books if I like the author/story/whatever. Actually, I'm normally a the-bigger-the-better when talking books! And series are even better! Although I agree that super big books are not really practical to read for book club here in just one month. So yeah, perhaps have to take that into account next time. I've been listening to the first one of the Earth Children by Jean M. Auel when I'm on the road and those books are super long! And part of the reason why I choose them. Plus I know I love these books, I've read the first 5 in traditional book form long ago and I'm very much enjoying listening to the story again.
That series is one of my ALL TIME favorites. I love them so much! I think I've read them all least twice. Well... I didn't love the fifth book and then I bought the sixth one and it got such bad reviews I never read it. The first four though... awesome!
^^^THIS! YES!^^^ Haven't read anything by her in a while, but adored the Shopaholic series. I'll put this one on my list for sure!
