I hate snakes and this pesky critter was in my downstairs powder room! It took some seriously deep breaths and even I even considered playing some Rocky theme music for effect just to sweep this blighter out the front door and down my driveway. I swear my feet did not touch the ground on the run back indoors, ha ha

Have you ever faced a fear before, like swim with sharks, or climb to lofty heights?

Oh gosh, this is scary!!! Do you have lots of snakes where you live?

My biggest fears are spiders and heights (not standing on top of a mountain, but more like climbing on stairs, where you can look through and balcony's that don't look safe etc...) This june, I conquered it for my hubby who wanted to go on top of the 'Arc du triomphe' in Paris: we had to climb a stair that turns, so there is always a void. I was singing a babysong and looking at the wall to do it, though ;-)

i am a bit claustrophobic and really don't like bats (the animals not the sporting equipment) or any small rodent - mice, chipmunks, squirrels, rats. pigeons also freak me out a little - especially the agressive ones that people have fed at a park. i would not do well at the piazza san marco in venice! my heart is racing a bit just looking at this photo.

We had a snake inside the house once. I'm not too proud to say I sent one of my kids to get a neighbor. I didn't want to take my eyes off of it and go myself. If I had gotten back and not been able to find it, I'm not sure I could have slept there.

eek!! I hate snakes and I would have died.
Not long after we moved into our house, I went in our bathroom to get some laundry and saw what looked like a big string or leather laying next to it and on closer inspection, it was an actual snake--small, but a snake nonetheless. I screamed, left the bathroom and closed the door (as if that would keep it in the bathroom!). My husband was in class and so I immediately called my dad, who talked me through getting a broom and also logically realizing that it was most likely already dead since it didn't move when I came in and screamed, but he told me I needed to jab it good with the broom handle to make sure. Once I realized that it was dead, I totally left my bathroom and closed the door and waited for Micah to come home and dispose of it!! I am such a wimp, huh?

    This was in our backyard!!
    It isn't dangerous, just big.
It eats, mice, rabbits, small dogs and cats...lol My kids all know snakes, as rattlers are very close looking to this one. We have a huge desert behind our house, that the boys play in constantly. Coyotes and foxes are out there too...but they are more scared of us.

Fortunately where I live the only type of snake I may run across is a Fox snake or the little Garter snake. Mice don't bother me, but I don't want them in my house.

To be honest (don't laugh) I have a fear (maybe more of an intense dislike) of Chihuahuas. Both my son and I have been attacked by one, different occasions and different dog both unprovoked. I have no issue with any other breed and tend to like large breeds, have always had Labs.

    Yikes, I can't stand snakes!

I had a very strong fear of flying (more like a fear of the plane suddenly and inexplicably taking a nose dive and crashing). I don't think I've totally overcome this, but when a friend had to practice touch-and-go landings in a small 4-seater plane, she asked if I wanted to go along. I did, and I made a decision to enjoy the flying low over the country estates and peeking into everyone's amazing backyards instead of having a death grip on the sides of my seat. The next year I had to fly with her husband to Rochester NY in the same size small plane, and I even handled the controls and flew the plane for about 15 minutes. My heart never beat so fast in my life!

That is the downside of Australia. Every time I think I really want to go and stay there for awhile, I see yukky stuff like that or pics of GIANT spiders. I wouldn't mind the snakes so much... but spiders? If there is a remotely big one in our house, I almost cry because it just scares me so much. It is really ridiculous.

Em you are sooooo BRAVE! I would have burnt down the house before doing what you did ROFL!!!

... living in Australia as you know we have a plethora of venomous nasties to be afraid of but I have to say SPIDERS are my biggest fear ... particularly Red Backs coz those nasty things like to hide just where you like to shove your hand .....

Oh my gosh everyone, there is something about heebie jeebie conversations that make me laugh just as much as my skin crawls.

Celeste, I am totally on the same page as you although I am not scared of birds the thought of them all mite ridden climbing over me makes me itchy!

Anne...OMG that is the foulest picture I have ever seen (not of you btw, I mean't the snake), but why please tell me why do you have your face so close to that thing arghhhh OMG noooo its wrapped around your neck that is seriously disgusting!!!!!! lol YOURE A BRAVE WOMAN!

Heather... good on you girl! That is amazing that you have done what you have done with flying... jeepers I am very impressed, just goes to show you might even have it in you to go as far as doing aerobatics ha ha

Jaye...what is it about some little dogs? They can be ferocious balls of fur, nastay little cantankerous things!

Stacia...I was the same as you didnt want to keep my eyes off it. I ended up chocking the bottom of the doors and then concocted my plan of removal. Unfortuantely my hubby is away at work so no Knight in shining armour that night but instead I corralled the thing out the front door by rolling up towels ironically like long snakes and swept it right outta there!

PLM...Great to read you conquered your fear sometimes doing it for someone else helps psychologically...I say whatever works go for it! You are very brave, you must of felt proud...YOU GO GIRL!

Kimberlee....Honestly in 14 years living here on teh Gold Coast this is only the second time I have encountered a snake, spiders on the other hand like Amanda said are a dime a dozen and it does pay to check shoes or gloves before popping them on, but dont let that put you off visiting us here in Queensland flip flops are the preferred shoe attire and there are too many peeps here that want to meet you IRL he he ;)

Soooo gross. You totally jinxed me!!!!

Tonight, we had a bat come into our beach house. We had the back door open to let some air flow, and the porch light wasn't on. We only had a couple of lights on inside, so somehow the poor little thing got inside and was totally disoriented. He was flying in circles, dive bombing us. The kitten was jumping and trying to catch him. Kennedy was freaking out, so I shoved him under the table. Tim grabbed the broom and was trying to shoo the bat out, but I was worried about him hitting it. Yuk. I finally grabbed the kitten and Kennedy and shoved them in the bedroom, closed the door, and opened both external doors. The bat finally flew out. It was totally creepy though. I don't mind them outside, but inside? Flapping around my head? No thanks.

AND I couldn't even get a picture. He was flying around too fast, and it was too dark in here. :p

Kennedy wouldn't leave my side for at least a half an hour. We had to have the discussion that vampires weren't real and that it was just a little fruit bat that got lost. I showed him some pics online of cute little bats. He finally calmed down enough to go to sleep.
