Hi all! I've been lurking here for years, but never properly introduced myself. I'm Maaike and live in the Netherlands with my husband, kids, and my very old golden retriever. I work in healthcare. Around 2011/2012 I started digiscrapping but did not realize it, LOL. I wasn't very pleased with the limited options the printing service had for creating (printed) photo albums and therefor started adding my digital drawings, backgrounds and elements to it, saved it as a photo and added the whole thing for printing. It took about 2 years before I realized there was actually a name for this hobby and even stores that sell items for it. So you can say I was pretty late to the party. Nowadays I'm still designing (but professionally) and hardly have the time for making my own scrap pages, even though I love it. However, I occasionally buy kits because they are so lovely... but they end up in folders. Hope I can use them when I retire or something, LOL. Happy to meet you all!
I definitely have been a scrapbook kit "collector" over the years too. Someday I should go back and see how many cute kits I've bought and never actually scrapped with. Thanks for saying hi -- it is nice to meet you!
Thanks for the welcome, umyesh and Dawn! Yes, I still think it is funny up 'till today... Since I thought I was the only one with this hobby, I started to question my sanity, haha. I knew what scrapping was, hybrid I mean, but I never linked that to my more artsy style, with lots of scribbles, watercolor splashes etc. since the scrapping pages I was familiar with were usually adorned with lots of buttons, bows and these cute stickers. In my immediate surroundings, I’m still the only one who digiscraps. Here, at least, I can freely talk about how enjoyable it is without being seen as odd or having to explain terms like 'layout' or 'elements' if people ask me what I like doing. 'Making photo albums' doesn't really cover what I/we do, but most of the time I'll just say that so at least people understand it a little.
“Making photo albums” is a good short explanation but definitely doesn’t cover everything that we do.
Welcome!!! I too was not satisfied with photobooks back when I started to and wanted more. That's why I got photoshop and started making layouts. I grabbed up as many freebies as I could to get a feel before I started purchasing.
Welcome! I love your explanation - so true! I've collected my share of supplies so beautiful I couldn't pass up too.
Hi Maaike @Maaike84_PGD Welcome to the Lilypad! We are so glad to have you join us! I was in Customer Service in the Health Care Industry (BC/BS & Cigna) for over 25 years,,, So glad to have you here with us!
Thanks Kim, Christa & Krista! There a simply too many gorgeous goodies, right? I drive my husband crazy since my folders take up a lot of space on the external hard drive. Ofc I 'do use it all' so I need that stuff.
