About the only drive thru I utilize is to drop off a prescription refill at the small local pharmacy I use. But, I go inside to pick it up. Much easier to pay and sign at the cash register inside than having to sign all that paperwork sitting in the car. I don't eat much fast food these days but I will go through the Wendy's drive thru when I do. I haven't eaten at our McDonald's since they tore the old one down and built the new one several years ago. And, when I travel if I stop at fast food to eat I go inside... so I can use the restroom before ordering food to go.
The list of fast food places that I will eat at is very short. Most of them give preference to the drive-thru customers, so often it is quicker than going inside. No one has mentioned a bank drive-through. I use them a lot.
I love drive thrus -- I can continue to listen to my podcast while I'm in line, I don't have deal with the "hassle" of parking, making sure I have all my stuff, juggling it all in the line, standing around waiting for my order to be filled, juggle it all to get it into the car, put everything away in the car, back out the space without hitting someone who is on their way in. With a drive thru, I just get into line, talk to the speaker when it is my turn, hand over my gift card, set my cup right into the cup holder as they hand it to me, and drive right out. My purse sits on the passenger seat for the entire transaction! No having to check that it's closed, making sure my wallet is put back into it, or that it lands on the seat and doesn't fall onto the floor! LOL I guess I should note that if I use a drive thru often, I get a reloadable gift card for paying -- it makes the transaction go very quick! And I'm usually only getting a drink (or four, if the kids are with me) and sometimes (again, usually only with the kids) a sort of snack. Anything else I go inside, so that I don't have to keep track of a large order.
There is one of those in my parents town. I never understood it. Until my sister in law pointed out that it was much easier to drive through and get her coke there, then to unload her 4 children, especially when the youngest where 4 and 1, and drag them into the store and out again. My friend gets her coke at McDonalds for the same reason - no undoing the car seats, and redoing the car seats! There was a convenience store that would sell milk too through the drive-thru. My dad loved that when they forgot to get milk, because even though it was expensive - it was cheaper than buying extra groceries! Cool! The last one I was near didn't. I heard the customer super frustrated trying to tell the employee what they wanted on their sandwich. And the employee mishearing. Um. Wow. That's unique! I used to, but I don't go to the bank much anymore. That is one spot where my mobile app has replaced it.
I walk everywhere so no drive thrus for me... lol! But there aren't a ton around us anyway.... space is at such a premium here that a lot of places don't even have parking lots. When we lived in Texas, I utilized them way too often though. Any time I could get something done without having to unbuckle my kids and take them in somewhere, I would take it!
