okay, so this is what I decided to do for our "DYD"! I will use PL pages so I can put "stuff" in it with my pictures, and the kids and I are all thinking of things that go with each letter - could be just one pocket ("x"...lol) or an entire spread. Pictures from this year and from the past (my Grandaddy was the best Santa Claus ever) and because of that, the stress of recording every day in December (when a whole lot of them are school/work/carpool, repeat) is gone!
Oh... I love that idea Danielle! I'm totally with you on alleviating the stress of recording every day in December. I'm trying to get starting with fleshing out my idea a bit so I'm at least prepared to start in December. Here is a very, very basic draft of my title page. At this point, it's more about solidifying my plan and I think this is going to work for us. I'm not sure I'm liking the word days in there, so I may change it to details instead. And of course, I'll pretty it up a bit. Like I said... the main thing right now is making sure I have my plan in order. Next up is probably doing something like LeeAndra, making a list of known activities and a list of other things that can be included. I guess I should start with a list of 1-26 and mark the things I know. I know for sure that #25 will be Christmas day and #26 will be Christmas with my in-laws (which happens after Christmas). I'll just fill in what I know and go from there. I'm feeling much more positive about this year since I have the beginnings of a viable plan!
I am so so so excited!!! I have 8 pages done already...hold onto your Paypal...no let it goooooooooooooooooooo with the DYD coming this Friday!!! Because I can't do 2014, it hasn't happened yet, I am doing 2004!! NO stress, lots of laughter and puts you in the Christmas spirit too!
I've been thinking this wk about options and what to do. I decided to make an 8x11 shutterfly book. I will custom make 7x10 layouts for book. I didn't see anywhere on their site about what size to make photos but I assume this will work, leaving a bit of white space around edges of page. I am only going to use my camera phone and snap pics throughout the month to scrap with.
RebeccaH, Shutterfly prints out a horizontal 7x9 book-not quite the same as a verticle 6x8, but at least the sizes are scaleable. Templates can easily be resized to 7x9 and nocked over. In fact, I think Lynne-Marie's 8 1/2 x 11 horizontal templates (you know, the one where you can choose your own arrangements?) can be scaled down and would fit the orientation. (that's what I've done with our family yearbook this year).
This sums up my plan perfectly. Plus it's a good excuse to buy some of the DYD goodies coming up this Friday.
Me too! The DYD and BYOC goodies each month are what keep me motivated to get THAT months pages done. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I've hit full fledged stifling panic that I can't pull off an actual physical DYD album. Do I talk myself down off the ledge and go for it anyway.... or do I go back to my digital comfort zone? Sigh... what to do, what to do? I still think I'm going to go for the physical album... but I'm going to have to work on planning a bit more so I feel more comfortable with the whole thing. I think what's doing me in is not having a way to print at home (I will come December 25th though!)... I just have to figure out the logistics of it all.
gah!!! Tracie! Don't give up before you start! You'll regret it! I know you can do it... maybe you can go through and plan what pocket cards you want to use, etc. and send of to have them printed now. That way they're on hand and ready to go. I know the year that I did PL hybrid-ish, I actually created all of my stuff in photoshop, paired up 3x4 cards onto a 4x6 canvas, and then printed them locally at the store down the road as 4x6 matte photos. T/hat was an easy way for me to keep current with having to print everything.
Here's the route I decided to go for my DYD this year... I may end up having to print it and put it together myself... I am having trouble finding someplace to print an 8.5x11 portrait orientation bound book. But I like the way it looks, so I'm going with it.
Thanks Rebecca! I'm still not completely off the ledge yet, but I'm determined to see this through. Tomorrow is our first official Christmas-y thing, so it's almost time to begin!
Was out looking for a 6x8 bound book printed and found one at Adoramapix! They have bound 8" tall by 6" wide printed books, and 12" tall by 8" wide. Just wanted to share if anyone was still looking.
Ack! That could be a game changer for me! Thanks for the info Jaime! Since I've already invested in the book, I think I'm still going to make an attempt at the sn@p album. But this gives me a great back up plan!
The blog post today on The Daily Digi talks about an approach that I think I might even be able to handle using apps on my phone that I already own (Pic Stitch and Dropbox). It's pretty basic but I'm thinking I could pull the completed Pic Stitch jpeg into photoshop and then add elements so that I can have some drop shadow dimension. You can check out the article here.
