It takes a LOT for me to give up on a book - it's the stubborn part of me I guess. I have to absolutely hate it to not finish it. Some I've regretted wasting my time; others I've been glad I didn't give up.

There are definitely some mixed reviews on that book aren't there? They do seem mostly positive though keeping in mind the abduction/hostage subject matter. Sounds interesting, Karen.

    Keep us updated.

Sometimes its better to just struggle through and finish it just to find out what happens - I had to do that with a series I just started called Vampire Huntress - Minion. I seriously had to MAKE myself finish it (the language the MCs use is SO annoying!!!) but I'm glad I persevered even though I can't make myself LIKE the book because at least I can say I read it even though I only gave it 2 stars :)

If you don't like it, let it go. I will give a book a few tries to get better, and if I still don't like it, I move on. I have three or four on my "currently reading" list on Goodreads that are like that. I wish there was an option on there for "didn't finish". Anyway, I figure my reading time is precious, so why waste it on a book I don't like.

I just finished a book that started off really great but was sooooo boring in the middle... It got a tad better in the end, but I won't recommend it to anyone to put it that way :p Yuck! lol

Now I'm about to start The Kitchen House! Yay!

My husband will suffer through a boring book, too. I just thought he was adverse to happiness but apparently this epidemic is more prevalent than I realized.

I would walk away, personally. I suffered through Anna Karenina many years ago and hated myself for it, so it's a mistake I vowed never to repeat.

    Be a quitter!

I have a mantra "Life's too short to read bad books!"! If it's awful, I read the end to see if it redeemed itself, then it's off to the next one.
