I still don't have the Lake House - too popular at the library! I'd love something a little easier to acess (older book?) and something maybe a little easier to read? Lake House just looks intimidating! LOL (512 pages! I usually stick under 400)
here are a few from my list - if they aren't suitable due to language etc i havent read them so i don't know...: Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro -older (2006) and shorter (p.288) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18515951-never-let-me-go California by Edan Lepucki -2014, p.393 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18774020-california Disclaimer by Renée Knight - from Apr 2015, p. 304 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23346719-disclaimer
ok, I've read this one recently and it was good. Saving Amelie by Cathy Gohlke Or, something lighthearted? I Love the Shopoholic books, but have not read anything else from Sophie Kinsella, but she's great in the Shopoholic series Can you Keep a Secret
I remember reading (at least some of) this in high school, and I recall it was very interesting. I remember my teacher wanted us to read them out loud ... and to read them with *feeling.* I horribly disappointed her on my turn. It is a collection (totally fictional) of grave epitaphs from an early 1900s American town. Probably a very quick read. Spoon River Anthology http://www.amazon.com/Spoon-River-A...7491494&sr=8-1&keywords=spoon+river+anthology
By the way ... are we limited to fiction? My old book club was really fun, we did all kinds of books: fiction, non-fiction, contemporary, classics, children's book, even a cook book once. And then we got together and brought food from the recipes!
I recently read this Farrah. It is HUGE and emotionally heart wrenching. I was SOOOO happy that I read it at the same time as my walking partner because I couldn't have stood it if I hadn't had someone to talk to about it that understood all the emotions I was going through. I'm still thinking about that book. I rated it 5 stars, but I'm still debating that rating because of the way the book made me feel (sad, mad, angry, sickened, sad and around again). But on the other hand, I am still thinking about it and I'm still FEELING it. Ya know? There are some really tough subjects in there!
It's such an excellent book, one that will stick with me pretty much forever. It's not for everyone, but I do agree that it's a great read for a book club because it has so many things to discuss. Given the length, if it's chosen I would suggest that we think about a two-month read for this one.
I just picked up The Lake House from my library yesterday! How can we already be picking for April! LOL
Let's Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Larson is on my nightstand to be read. If everyone has already read it, I wouldn't mind reading her new book Furiously Happy.
You are totally welcome to pick anything and everything! It is hard cause this is such a large group and people seem drawn to one area more than anything, but I personally would like to try some new things!
I have A Little Life on my Kindle from the library right now but I haven't started it yet. Y'all are scaring me though cuz no one around here has read it. Should I make my DH read it, too???
Sara, there are probably enough of us here who have read it - we could to a book conversation if we don't choose it for book club. Honestly, I would love EVERYONE to read it. It was pretty impactful for me.
Read this in his high school as well. Also saw it performed on stage which was much better. Definitely would create interesting conversation.
