We should totally meet up since I'm only about an hour away from Mobile . . . in a small town outside of Pensacola!
When I was younger I went to Miami, Orlando, Chicago, St Louis, Boston, and NYC. I am a small town girl, and the big cities are not for me these days! I was lucky enough to spend a summer working on Nantucket when I was 21, and that is my favourite place in the US. Not for the posh touristy bits, you see a different side to a place when you work there! xx
every one of them? I guess my trip to the USA would be more an emotional trip on meeting friends than a touristic one...even though I know every place has amazing sites.... I have to say New York has to be the very first as we are a musical theater family. Then Texas as so many of my friends are there. Then, my dream: to meet Danyale, which by proxy would mean I meet Cheryl (fiddle Dee Dee) I would love to go to meet Laura too, and then all my friends so, yes, I have to say mine should be an all around trip.... if the EVER give me a visa .....or I win the lottery
That would be awesome, Cheryl! He is actually there by himself most of the time. I still work in our original home in Huntsville, AL (med school is expensive, yo) since there aren't a lot of jobs in the Mobile area in my industry, and the ones that are there don't pay anything near what I make here. For that I'd have to commute to...well...Pensacola on a daily basis! I drive back and forth to our house in Mobile couple of times a month, though.
Yes, this! Some campgrounds fill up for the busy seasons MONTHS in advance. I think that Yosemite is one of them. Zion seems to stay pretty full, too.
I'm partial to St. Louis. Lot's of free activities such as the zoo, science center, art museum and history museum all at Forest Park. In the busy season you often have to pay for parking but in the off season street parking isn't too hard to come by. Also Grant's Farm is free (again you only have to pay parking) and The Arch is always fun, even if you don't want to go to the top the museum downstairs is interesting. Downtown St. Charles is also a favorite place for me, especially in December when they really do it up for Christmas. I think that there is a Lewis and Clark museum there as well but I've never been. I would also consider looking at visiting places that have a CityPass. If you are going to be able to visit for a few days it's probably worth it. We always talked about taking a staycation in Chicago when we lived there and doing the CityPass thing but it never happened. Still would love to do it some point though.
We love Lake Tahoe. It's beautiful there. I prefer to go in the summer to enjoy the sun and the water. It snows in the winter so if you don't mind the snow then you're good. San Diego has already been mentioned but great weather all year long. Big Sur....this place is just beautiful. If you are a wine lover Sonoma/Napa Valley is the perfect place.
Monterey and San Francisco were fabulous. But we haven't been anywhere much outside of California, Hawaii and Alaska.
DH and I spent a few days in San Francisco this summer, it was so much fun! We loved Muir Woods too! I totally agree about the National Parks too, and don't worry too much about the camping... some have places to stay in the parks and all have places to stay just outside for not too much money. Southern Utah is great because you can hit Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and Arches all within hours of each other. No other place on earth like it! Yellowstone is also a must see.
New Orleans! Wonderful people, amazing food, and a beautiful old city. I also enjoy Boston for it's history and DC as well. Savannah is a beautiful city. I always enjoy San Diego when we visit. And when you visit NYC, take a quick trip to West Point. It's gorgeous...best in the fall! And it's fun to see the cadets and parades. ETA - when you go to Hawaii, I would suggest not staying on Waikiki. It's very crowded and touristy and one of the hottest parts of Oahu. North Shore is cool, quieter and breath taking!
well... I just saw this online today. And was so excited to share it. But then I read that you were talking about flying. so... not 100% sure this still applies to you, but at the very least, Here is a list of the "best places to visit" sort of. HERE
