Hi everyone! Thanks for letting me join you this month. I had a blast creating for the collection. I'm a little late with my technique post, summer has been busy busy! Here you go: The great thing about Art Journaling is taking things and making them your own to fit the mood you want to convey. One easy way to change elements you already own is to change the color. It's a fairly easy process when dealing with single color items, but how do you transform multi colored elements? Let me introduce you to the Replace Color Tool in Photoshop (I'm using PS6 if that helps anyone) I grabbed Sissy Sparrows frame from the June M3 collab kit. sspar_m3elements_frame.png Go to Image>Adjustment>Replace Color A menu box will pop up. Use your eye dropper to click on the image the color you want to change. In this case I'll pick the reddish pink. Watch the black and white image, the color you've chosen is depicted in white. Move the fuzziness slider to the left to remove pixels, and move it right to add more. You want the white to match up with the area you want to change. Then click on the Result box at the bottom and pick a new color to replace it. I chose an orange, play around with different shades, and click on and off the box at the top that says "Localized Color Clusters", basically play around until you get a color and look you like, then hit ok. You can do this again with another color, I selected the green this time and changed it to a purple. I had to lower the fuzziness slider so the orange wouldn't change to a muddy lavender. It still diluted the orange so you could go back and adjust the orange again if you'd like it more vivid. But I liked the result so I went with it. Here is the before and after! Have fun changing your elements to match whatever mood you are in!
I'm back. PSE does have the same technique!!!! It isn't located under Image, however. If you go to Enhance > Adjust Color > Replace Color, the same pop up box appears and the rest of the technique works exactly the same. It is so slick and I had never used it before. I had always gone to Adjust Hue/Saturation which is a LOT less precise. Thank you, thank you for this tip. Here is how it looked on my example: I changed the splatter color on the right half and the background, sponged color on the left. Pretty slick!!!
Well isn't that the coolest thing ever. I have been scrapping for almost a decade and I never knew this little trick! Thanks!
In Paintshop I use the color replacer tool. I love being able to do this. Someday I'll change to Photoshop but for now, I'm learning to do these techniques with Paintshop.
