Did you guys get emails about this? I guess it is a subscription and for 9.99/mo, you get unlimited book titles on the Kindle? What do you guys think?
sounds great if you read more that that much in books each month lol. but do they have a time limit? like a library?
I browsed through the library of books that qualified and didn't see a lot that I was all that interested in reading. Similar to the free books you get with Amazon Prime - it's great in theory, but they didn't have enough books I really wanted
They don't have what I am looking for in that list. Plus, I am sure it will be like the Amazon prime where there is some kind of catch. What is it ONE book per month with Prime?
Is this something Amazon is doing to have a similar offering to the Oyster program which is like netflix for ebooks? I hear great things about Oyster but it is only phone and Kindle compatible right now. Once they make it Nook compatible (my e-reader of choice), I'm fairly certain I'll sign up for Oyster! I hear their catalog is fantastic ... mostly backlist but lots of publishers are participating and their participation lists are growing. Perhaps this is Amazon's idea of a way to compete with Oyster or similar programs?
From what I have read, it seems like it is like Netflix for books. I guess i didnt realize there were other programs out there like that. I wondered what the books were like. They said there is a one month free trial, which I considered using if I found some books on there that I was interested in.
There's no books from the top 6 publishers, I think is what I read? But it's a cool idea, especially if you read a lot!
I scrolled through the book lists, but it's not new releases or really any authors I recognize. Netflix for books is probably an accurate description. There's a couple of things you recognize, but it's really just a lot of stuff, lol.
If you're a big reader, you may want to check out Oyster which I believe has several major publishers books and from what I can see on the site, there are a lot of good books available. Mostly backlist so you won't find a ton of new releases but there are books from major publishers. And you can use it if you have Kindle. Might be a better fit if there aren't many decent books in the Amazon plan. But, those programs are only a good deal if you read a lot. I think it's interesting that amazon is getting into this business!
Honestly, given the fact that neither Oyster or Kindle Unlimited has a lot of new release titles, I get a WAY better deal with my library card. And if your library doesn't offer e-books, a lot of the bigger cities (I know Seattle and King County public libraries do this) offer a library card to non-residences for somewhere around $50/year.
I use my library card the VAST majority of the time, Julie. I rarely re-read books and so hate to buy them. I just keep a running list of requests and read them as they become available!
You are so right, Julie! The library is definitely the best deal! It's perfect, especially for new releases. If I want to read back list, it becomes more tricky since most of my library's e-books are newer books not older books. That is one of the only reasons I'm even considering Oyster one day ...
Like everyone else, I am happy with the library. I looked at the Kindle deal, but I should be reading less, not more! I have a bad habit of reading before getting the household chores done.
thanks for all the info ladies, I'm a kindle owner and did see the ad for this program, thanks for doing my research for me LOL...I read A LOT, and I do re-read my favs so I usually buy my books. I do want to check out Oyster though, any links would be appreciated. Happy Friday!!!
thanks so much for the link, always interested in new places to get my books...will be checking it out this weekend.
