I'm making some!! Today I finished 1st quarter of 2014, including every.single.gymnastics.meet and various inserts. I even did a cover for the 1st quarter. The best part.... I ordered my book!! Can't wait to get it! There's something so satisfying about having the finished product in-hand! I splurged and got the lay-flat pages from shutterfly. We'll see if they're worth the extra $$. If so, I'll probably spend the extra to get them from here on out. If not, I guess I'll save my $ for something else. Now, on to the 2nd quarter!!
can you guys see the preview if i just share this link: http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0BcNXLVo5ZsmE1 i can't get shutterfly's share feature to work for some reason.
Yay!! Your book looks AWESOME!! How much fun is it going to be to get that in the mail? I have edited through the end of April and am uploading to MPIX to print 4x6s tonight and I am tagging as I go along in Lightroom!!
I'm wondering though... I noticed that everything is pretty close to the edges, photos & text on the PL pages... Aren't you scared some things are going to be cut off?!? I know with our photo service, they say a few mm off of the edge and I had trouble with a few pages earlier... That's why I always keep a small white border around my PL pages and make sure that my text or anything isn't close to the edgde on normal pages...
Your book looks so awesome Rebecca! I love it! I love the 6x12 inserts you added and that you also mixed PL pages and regular pages all together. You won't regret the layflat pages. I've done my last two books from Shutterfly with them and I love them!! The books are much fatter though!
Yay!!! That is so fun! I love your album, Rebecca! I need to get ordering my first batch from Persnickety. I have print credits. I've never ordered from them. My album and inserts are all ready to be filled!
Love, love, love this!! I really love your mix of pages... PL, regular scrapbook pages and the half pages as well! So much fun to look at. Hmmm... maybe adding regular pages will be part of my plan for next year. I also love your cover and back. Designing my cover is one of the hardest things for me.
My experience with Shutterfly is that what shows up in the preview is already cropped to show how it will likely print. I know my preview shows up with much less border than I have on the original file. I've always operated on the philosophy that if it's not cut off in the preview, it's good to go. So far, so good. If it isn't cut off in the preview, it's not cut off in the printed book.
this exactly. They have a preview feature that shows the crop. I did have to go back and tweak the cover a bit once I saw the crop on it. I think, with the lay flat pages, the details in the center crease should be preserved. We'll see when it gets here I guess.
My plan on the 6*12 pages is to trim off the white so they will function like an insert would. I'm hoping I can actually get up the courage to cut it when it comes down to it.
Did you get it with a discount, Rebecca? I got an email this morning showing a site-wide sale and thought of you. I will say that at Christmas, I ordered something from them and the very next week, they had a better sale and I got on their site and chatted with a customer service person and they promptly refunded the difference!
Becky, I got 40% off, plus an additional $15 off of my total. their customer service has always been really great, in my experience. I'm sure they would honor a better deal if I found one.
I have several half pages in mine that I plan to trim... but, like you, I'm going to have to work up the nerve to actually do it!
OMG... that looks amazing!!! I'm totally jealous. I use Shutterfly all of the time for basic 8x8 photo books, but I've never tried a 12" one. That is super cool. And I think it will be really neat to trim the pages on the inserts. Just take a breath and do it!!!! You are a rock star!
Oh that's awsome rebecca!! Prob cause lots more albums are made the scrapbooking way?! Here in the netherlands it's like a normal photo album and no extra scrapbooking features (there are obviously not a ton of scrapbookers over here either, lol) and The lay flat option is waaaay expensive, so I never do that... But keeping a little white border around it, is perfect to me glad it works out for you guys!
It is sooo beautiful! I love the mix of the PL pages, 'regular' scrapbook pages, and the "currently" pages mixed it. it makes for a really fun book chock full of gorgeous photos and snippets of your life. Really an interesting mix to look at. Let us know what you think of the printed book when it arrives. Thanks for sharing!
Got my book today, and I LOVE it! The lay flat pages were definitely worth the extra $$, and I will be ordering my albums that way from now on I think. And I made myself be brave and cut the insert pages right away. I actually just used scissors. Maybe not a perfectly straight line, but it turned out just fine, and I love the look of the 'insert' pages!!
