Tomorrow is the last day of the month already!! SOOOOO.... how did the first month of PL go for you? Did you keep up? Fall behind? What worked and what didn't?
For me, I kept up for the most part. I got my weekly spreads done for all 4 weeks so far, and am just waiting on the weekend to finish up this week. I do have some "other" pages that I want to finish up and include in my album. I still have to get some of those done.
I kept up. I fell into how I want my weeks to layout (it only took three weeks to get it in place, and even then it's merely the positioning of three cards, the rest are completely random). I feel like I have my own style. It might not be as pretty and simplistic as I want it to be, but it works for me. (= My worry is keeping up with it for the rest of the year. The first month or two are easy, it's continually finding things to keep doing as the time goes on. I love using Just Jaimee's Storyteller kit and can't wait to see what's in store for February. Personally, I sorta see Project Life as a reason for me to keep busy. I wanna fill up those spaces in my layout. At this point, whatever keeps me busy and out of the house is a plus for me.
Well, considering I still haven't finished last week, I still feel like it went well. I still feel like I am trying to find my groove for this year. It helped me so much last year to keep it simple and I think that I am going to have to get back to that again this year and just decided what I want my consistent 'things' to be each week. The last couple of weeks have been super busy, but I am hoping to find a bit of time this weekend to catch up again.
The weather (as you know, Rebecca!) has really negatively impacted our ability to get out of the house and do things (as well as an unexpected bad circumstance occurring a couple weeks ago), but I am still doing my best to take enough pictures to fill my 8 3x4 pockets for the week.
I feel like it went great for me but it's usually around March or April that it all starts to fall apart so I will need some extra pushes around then. I have been able to stay current and the biggest reason for that is working on it a little every day. I open a spread at the beginning of the week and it stays open always so that I can add to it when I get some pictures etc…. One of the main things for me this time is also filling in my journaling that day, or very close to that day, so that I am not going back trying to remember the details. The only 2 things that I switched up at the end here is my date cards and font. I had been starting my weeks on Monday but found it works better for me to use the Sunday- Saturday ones. I switched my typewriter font for a more hand written looking one and I really like how it turned out on this weeks spread. The one thing that I am struggling with is making myself get out the camera and capturing those pictures. Having my phone nearby makes it easier but I really want to drag out my big daddy camera more. I am finding that right now it seems I have more journaling than pictures but that's ok I guess. I am treating this kinda like our family journal so i know that journaling is just as important as the pictures but it sure looks better with more pictures filled in.
I agree LA, we've been stuck indoors due to weather and/or sickness, so I haven't taken many photos... though, I think that's the beauty of doing monthly for me and not worrying about filling up two pages per week... I have found that even though I'm doing monthly, I'm still stuck in my weekly routine and doing a spread every week, but I will end this week's spread with today and make the first week of February a long week just so I can use my dividers in my album lol Despite being sick this week, I'm finishing up week 4 and really liking my new format and really hoping I can keep it all in one album... I'm also really enjoying the process of altering cards and making my pages more "me" with the added digital paint and adding my own doodles...
I've enjoyed starting PL style pages for the 1st time - my style might not be consistent but I'm ok with that as I'm finding my grove and don't want to get bored. I have been keeping up with photo taking on my phone and emailing them to myself. Week 5 might be a 2 pager? I've only done 1 page spreads so far - again I'm good with this Congrats everyone for keeping up and good luck for February xx
January went well for me. I'm beginning to find my groove with the changes I've made for this year. I also managed to get through my first low photo week of the year. I think my new format helped with that immensely! Last year I used the same template every single week and I had to make things fit no matter what. This year I'm using whatever template I think will work best. Last year on low photo weeks, sometimes my best photos that I wanted to use were portrait orientation and the only portrait slots I had were 3x4's. Now I can pick which template best highlights the photos I want to use and pick filler from there. I've always struggled with filler, but I actually really liked it on my last week because it didn't feel forced, if you know what I mean. Week five is probably going to be my first four pager of the year. There was quite a bit going on this week, plus we have a big weekend ahead (totally contrasting activities though... my son is going on a homelessness immersion night with his church confirmation class and my daughter has her first glitzy dance competition).
I'm happy with mine so far, have kept current enough. I want to take more everyday shots though, as I do tend to fall into the habit of just taking pictures when we go out somewhere.
So far so good for me. Last year I didn't make it to the end of January so I'm happy I'm still at it. I'm starting week 5 now. I'd like to streamline my weekly cards a little more, I'm still looking for the "perfect" weekly card for me. I've been switching fonts a lot and trying to decide if I'm ok with that. I'd rather stick with one but haven't found my perfect combo yet. I'm having the same issue with weather here - it's been too cold to do much outside, and we do most of our "stuff" on the weekends, and I haven't been good about getting out my real camera. So, most of my pics are from the weekend, from my cell phone.
January done . . . tick What worked for me was keeping my pages simple. I decided PL for me is about the photos and the stories behind them, not the pretty elements or mini masterpieces. I tried that last year and failed in week 1 lol
January is about half way done. I had to spend a lot of time this month getting last year's album caught up, which put me behind for 2014. I am not taking as many pictures this month as I would like either, so it has been hard to fill up two pages. I am trying to combine weeks when I can and need to. Seems to work, but I really need to get back in the habit of taking more pictures. This has just been such a crazy month, with the weather, travel, personal issues, it's been hard to get back into a normal life routine.
I did well! All done up up to week 5 only because week 6 isn't over! I like having some things be consistent every week. I grab the same weekly title card every week, same font, same week in review, same template set. Just some things I dont have to think about.
I had a little lag time in January when I got stuck on a two page spread that I was trying to make work without enough photos. I finally decided to skip past it and go back to it and feel better about that already. I now have an idea of what I want to do to fill in the week and then I'll be back on track.
I learned last year that PL works better for me when I work on it every few weeks. Doing it one spread at a time I don't get into a good rhythm and spend way too much time on it. I also like having some weeks off of PL to focus on scrapping regular pages. I had a lot of trouble balancing the 2 last year, and I want to do better this year. So far I've finished my first 3 weeks, and when week 6 ends I'll work on 4-6. Not too bad considering I didn't finish 2013 until mid-Jan.
Kept up. Like a boss. What's helped is setting aside Sunday afternoon/evening to work on it, which is great because we are usually home then anyway. Also, keeping it super simple with most of the focus on the stories/photos/words. Ask me again in July though... last time I did PL (2012) summer is when I really got behind.
I agree Lynnette, having a day to sit down and focus on getting everything together really helped me out, too. Also, keeping it simple - not pressuring myself to make 'wow' pages - has kept this project realistic for me. Let's see if we can stick with it!
Caught up through week 5! So far - so... okay... I spent a huge amount of wasted time on some photos/cards that didn't match - I really see the attraction of turning all your photos into black & whites- but can't quite do a whole book like that... I like the stitched templates I am using this year and in the set there is lots of flexibility for different photo orientation/sizes. I like the Heather Joyce journal font I am using- I am still not sure about the date-vs week# -vs both. I might stick to one idea for a month, and then switch it up every month. Keeping it simple works best for me. I am hoping to get my 2013 book printed this month- so that should keep me motivated to do it again- and seeing all the gorgeous spreads here & in the gallery!
I decided to try it this year (digitally). Made many traditional ones in the past. I did get January (4 weeks) completed. I don't think I have found my grove yet, but I like what I have completed so far. I have no idea if there is a trick to it or if most just wing it. I am a wing it kinda girl, lol. I do have an idea to keep me going though.
