Do you do any volunteer work? I can honestly say I don't do any ON PURPOSE, I just seem to fall into it. lol I do tons in my running club (maintain the website, plan group runs, etc). I am also on the board for that charity that sponsored the Run Across Ohio. It's called Patriot Runners and they help wounded vets get back into sports. Great cause, but TBH I'm only involved because they were like "We are meeting at Panera" and I love Panera. I had no idea WHY they were meeting and didn't ask. But anyway, for them I do their postcards and trifolds and other advertising stuff. How 'bout you?
We (DH & I) volunteer during the holidays for an orphanage collecting food and all other new items from sponsors to bring Christmas to those children that don't have a home or parents. It's an awesome feeling when we all show up on motorcycles (this past year there were close to 400 bikers who participated.) and the looks on the kids faces is absolutely priceless!
Yep, through our local women's group and at my son's school as PTO Treasurer and Yearbook Editor among lots of other things. Since he's school age now, I kinda feel like it's my job title.
John is a wish granter for Make a Wish, and I will sometimes help him on his wishes with the send-off parties, taking pictures, helping set up, etc.
I do lots of misc stuff for my church. I'm in the choir, I'm a Sunday school teacher, plus I run a scrapbooking group once a month (although that seems too fun to be considered volunteering) and I also run an all day scrapbooking crop for our women's ministry fundraiser every March. I'm also on a team horribly named the FAT team (Family Activities Team) and we host a monthly movie night for the kids plus do a couple fun events like a big bash for Halloween that we call Hallow Him, and this weekend we are doing a Gym and Swim night at our local YMCA. I'm also a member of our local Parrothead club (Jimmy Buffett fan's) and it's theme is Party With a Purpose. We do all kinds of things like food drives near Thanksgiving, clean up our adopted local beach a couple times a year, Toys for Tots, etc.
I used to do quite a bit - I taught the elementary girls Missionettes at our church for several years, and when the kids were in public school I did the PTA thing which was a ton of work (more than I originally expected). In the past I've also done Habitats or Humanity which was really fun! At the moment, the only thing I'm doing is the PTA for the kids K12 group.
I really enjoy volunteering, though, I know I am a little over-committed right now. When this school year ends, I'll probably only re-enroll for about half of my current roles. Chair of the school-wide Carnival Kindergarten Room Mom Yearbook photographer Daisy Troop outing coordinator Daisy Troop photographer and scrapboooker (imagine that LOL) Tennis team snack helper High School parent volunteer for various events Sunday school teacher (on rotation, not weekly) We're trying to make sure the kids also get volunteer opportunities through school/work and attend along with them. I really want them to grow up understanding the value of giving back.
Right now I'm not really doing much...I am fairly heavily involved in DD's homeschool group, and try to help out when I can with her 4H and scout groups. Everything in my life seems to revolve around her. I'm hoping when she's a bit older we can do some volunteer work together, most places that we've checked want their volunteers to be at least 14. DD has volunteered at the library though, she had a blast, and loved knowing she was helping out her favorite place!
I volunteer at http://bfla.bestfriends.org/. It's fun. My 12 year old & 16 year old started volunteering there this week, too! But aside from that, nothing else.
I do lots of volunteering at the elementary school: in the teacher work room (help with art projects, laminating, copying, etc...whatever the teachers need) help do labeling and set up for the art fair in the spring help with the winter carnival which is coming up in two weeks read with students room mom Volunteer at the preschool where our other son goes when I can (we can only go in every 5 weeks) Snack coordinator for baseball Help coach the soccer team with hubby when the other coach is gone
I would love to do some volunteering and actually be able to take my kids with me to help.....thinking about looking in to the local no kill animal shelter and see if there is a way for all of us to volunteer there
Oh my gosh, yes. I used to love volunteering but somehow I got too sucked in and now I'm overcommitted and trying not become bitter. Ha! I am stepping down from some of these responsibilities next year. For my kids' elementary school: I work at the library for a half day every week as a volunteer. I create and distribute the Student/Teacher Directory for all the schools in our School District every school year. I am the Room Mom for both kids' classrooms in charge of planning the parties for each class each year. Sometimes I have to pitch in and be a room mom for other classes my kids are not in. I work at various PTO events throughout the year. For our local Little League (baseball league): I am the Secretary of the Board. I handle all the communication, paperwork, registration, advertising, customer service and event planning for a League with over 200 players. This is a huge undertaking. I feel like it is my part time job. For my kids' swim club: I maintain a bulletin/display board at our local high school that needs to be updated several times a month. It is one of the main forms of communication and recognition for our club swimmers. I also have various volunteer shifts to help run the meets our club hosts throughout the year that all parents have to do. For Cub Scouts: My close friend is both the Pack and Den Leader so I get sucked into all sorts of volunteering jobs here.
I volunteer once a week providing play to children and their siblings while in hospital through Radio Lollipop
Wow, I feel lazy!! I haven't gotten super involved in the PTO stuff at school, but I did go in to help out with the Book Fair and Santa Shop this year. Having the baby makes it hard...I'd like to be a lot more involved when Emily gets to school.
