I posted a screenshot of my Amazon cart total (at the time) and the different reactions were interesting.

I usually spend $100-200 on one "big" gift for each kid, and then get a few smaller things. This year I felt like I cut back a little, and it averaged about $200 total for each one. (Some were more, some were less, I just got roughly the same NUMBER of gifts for each one. They don't know/care how much stuff cost, so I don't even it out like that, just by number.)

I thought $200 each wasn't much. I'm not sure how I'd spend LESS than that? Of course, with 5 kids, when you spend $200 each, it lands you a $1k+ shopping cart, so maybe it was just the total that shocked people?

I'm not gonna change anything, but I thought it would be interesting to know what everyone else spends. :giggle

I usually do the big gift too. Seems the older they get the more expensive it gets :|
i spend 200-300 per kid. I like to keep it simple for my 7 yr old because if he gets to much he gets really twitchy and overwhelmed.

It was just the number was staggering to see, Angie. That's more than two weeks' worth of pay for me!

We spend approximately $100 each on the kids. We do tend to spend less on SS on years when he is not with us Christmas morning since he already gets so. much. stuff from his mom/mom's side and more is spent on him during the year for activities, sports, etc. than we spend on DD.

I spend about $250 to $300 on my two kids each including stocking stuffers. It is just the three of us and I save a little each month to save it all up so that I can do it.

I do buy for my parents and the 3 kids in the family but not the adults.

I was pleasantly surprised that my daughter bought me a gift last year, very thoughtful and with her own money. I told her she could have used mine for it.

Considering its just John & me, no kids, we spend a lot. But, we typically don't buy a lot of "fluff" stuff throughout the year. What I asked for for Christmas is all stuff I would never think to just go out and buy for myself.

We did go to Petco today and walked out with $80 worth of stuff for the girls' stockings ... :giggle

we spend a lot. 300-500 per kid. but in my defence they don't get a gift from any one else but us as we have no other family around and we don't usually buy them anything through the year except for birthdays.
I have two older teens so their stuff is kinda pricey and Chloe is 7 so we spend less on her cause her stuff isn't as much and she really doesn't need more toys so we buy her 1 big thing (this year its the treehouse from Calico Critters) and crafty stuff and things that keep her busy. We don't buy clothes for her for Christmas.

We typically spend like $20 each on our kids for Christmas, not because we're stingy, lol, but because their grandparents (especially on their mother's side) go all out for Christmas. Even when we're overseas, our parents send a big package with Christmas presents, so it seems silly for us to spend money on stuff they don't need.

This year my wishlist was PL page protecters, an album & a $60 tablet, so I can write on my photos and journaling cards before I print them, and my mom is sending money because she doesn't think that's enough. I do love that mom of mine. : )

We spent about $300-$325 total per kid...from us, from Santa and stocking. We typically do a big gift but this year there really isn't anything "big" that the kids need or want. It's about average for us. We save a set amount of money each month throughout the year so that it's not such a hit at Christmas.

Also, it costs me the same whether I order all at once, or 50 orders. So, might as well get it over with and eat Ramen for a couple weeks. :rofl

I refuse to ever total up what I spend on Christmas. Generally my kids only get presents on Christmas and birthdays, so I don't feel bad about it. I get a little too into the "magic" of Christmas morning and kinda spoil my kids. Last year they had 10 presents each, plus over stuffed stockings. I haven't actually looked at everything we got this year yet, but it is probably a little less.

We used to spend about $150 each child between us, Santa, and stockings. However, it gets a little crazier, because both my boys are December babies (one on the 14th and one on the 26th). However, this is the first year I am not working, and we're being very frugal. $25 each for their birthday gifts, and < 100 for their presents. Santa is just doing stockings this year. Luckily I have some Superhero lego stuff I got much earlier in the year that we'll be giving to them for Christmas. Sigh. I wanted that Poison Ivy lego character for me... :)

Other than my one best friend and my domestic help, we only do gifts for my 7 y.o. son and I don't really set an amount for it, just depends on what he's wishing for at that time so some years it's more and some years less. This year so far we've spent about 200+ in USD for 6 gifts. If I come across more stuff I think he might like, I'll probably get a couple more. Christmas is hard for me to figure out gifts for because his birthday is in Sept and we'd have gotten most everything he wants by then. We don't really buy him toys other times of the year.

We probably spend about $150 plus stocking stuffers so maybe $20 on each kid... but I also try to make sure they have the same amount under the tree. We also usually get them a "big" present to share since they pretty much always want the same things.

We put aside about $2000-2500 in March every year for Christmas and Birthdays. We usually spend around $400 per child and $100 for birthdays b/c they don't get much throughout the year. We spoil them for Christmas and I am ok with that. The only other people that spoil my kiddos are my parents since they are the only grandkids still small. (My brother's and sister's kids are having kids of their own now)

This year we kind of blew our spending out of the water since we bought the 3 younger boys each an iPad2. We are only spending about $200 on our oldest since we are still paying for his college and he got our car in May.

I usually try not to add it up..we've spent over $500 this year (I just cringe thinking about it...lol!). We get a bonus each year at work and I've been at my job since she was born, so I always use it for dd's Christmas. She doesn't get big toys during the year, so this is when I try to get most of the things she has asks about.

We probably spend more around the amount Kim does, but we buy things throughout the year and put them up for December. It's easier to spread it thin like that than to drop that kind of money all in one month. It seems a bit crazy to me to spend that much on one day of the year and Husband and I have been talking about doing 3 or 4 gifts a piece for the kids...a need, a read, a want and a gift from siblings...plus stockings. The good news is that we only buy for Christmas and birthdays, so it's not like they get toys and junk they don't need all year. They get a $2 (they're 2 and 4) a week allowance for doing all of their chores for the week and if they want something during the year, they have to use the money they save for that. If the don't have enough, they don't get it.

we do one bigger gift for each kid, and then a few smaller. so probably about $200-$300 on each kid? And then hubby and I spend around $100 on each other. Once we buy gifts for other family members we buy for, it's close to $1200. ugggh! But we save for it during the year and pull out of that savings to do Christmas.
