Our Elf, Cookie, is scheduled to make his first appearance tomorrow night. I was contemplating and Elf Welcome breakfast on Saturday. I just need to find the time tomorrow to pull it off! This is our third year of Elf fun. I have to admit I am feeling the pressure. DH and I did quite a few creative Elf activities last year to make it extra fun for the kids. This year, though, I feel like I am out of original ideas. Will you please share your Elf pinterest boards or favorite elf ideas? TY!
Lauren (Reid) had a picture on facebook where her elf was hanging from a picture frame and all of the pictures around it had mustaches stuck to the faces. My friend had her elf perched on the toilet (she lifted the ring part of the seat and then kind of secured him around that) and put a few pieces of what I think was dog food into the toilet. [sorry if that offends anyone!]
I blogged last year's pictures here. This hear, he's made his apparition three days ago but I haven't had time to blog yet, I will try to catch up next week. This morning we found him upside down in a bag of chocolate!
How about taping the child's doorway completely so when they wake up their like.... "whaaaa???" haha!! Don't forget your camera!
Tracy always has great Elf ideas. So does Gina (Miller). I realize that's not really helpful, but hopefully, they will pop into this thread soon!
I'm going to keep my eyes on this thread too. I just ran out to Target and got our elf, so this is the first year he's visited my house. I found some cute photos on IG with the #elfontheshelf hashtag, maybe you can find some new ideas by looking there.
I'm still doing the great Elf debate... to elf or leave it on the shelf (at the store). *sigh* maybe next year.
Oooh yes. I'm trying to map some out as well. This is year four so I think I'm entering Recycled Ideas time. Here's a couple fresh ones I have planned so far: create a "trail" (of twine, crepe paper, or bits of paper or some such) leading to the car in the garage where Rachel the Elf will be sitting with a new Reindeer air freshener from Bath and Body Works setting up Christmas decorations (sent by Nana) in Bugga's room Plant magic seeds (cookie sugar decorations in shape of trees) in sugar with directions to sprinkle with sugar once a day for 3 days. On 3rd day something will grow. Secretly plant lollipops or cookies on a stick on 3rd day. play scrabble, spelling out holiday words making a marshmallow snowman preparing for a North Pole breakfast receiving and opening mail that has a new outfit for Rachel in it Here's a few we've done in the past: set the scene of Rachel making smores with a wee mallow on a stick over a tealight, with a cracker and chocolate nearby set the scene of Rachel "fishing" for goldfish with a pole (DG made this with a stick and some fishing line) and hook (DG used a paper clip) with goldfish on the line and a bowl of goldfish below snow angels in some flour on the counter playing with silly string in the <insert room/area here> Rachel watching a movie on the couch with a bucket of popcorn (we had her leave some popcorn for us to pop and a chose the movie she was "watching" to be one we didn't have yet…so we could have a family movie night that night) Rachel got mischievious and turned the toilet water green (with food coloring) -- this one totally freaked Bugga out for some reason..she was NOT a fan lol Rachel "decorated" our bathroom mirror with words and pictures (use lipstick or window paint or even post its) Rachel reading a book (could be the gift of a new book) Rachel having a tea party with Bugga's favorite stuffed animals Rachel in the ice box because AZ is too warm for her Rachel set up a scavenger hunt in the house Rachel taking a "bubble bath" (of marshmallows or cotton balls) in the sink Rachel TPing the Christmas tree Rachel reading the Christmas story in the Bible covered the doorway with crepe paper wrapping presents Rachel had fun "riding" the ceiling fan (DG attached her to it with some string) DG set up a "zip line" in the house and had Rachel ride down it sitting at the computer "watching" a message from Santa (Portable North Pole) make Rudolph noses on family while sleeping build buildings with legos "teach" all of Bugga's animal figurines (we had Rachel the elf at a chalkboard and the animal figurines together as if they were the class) play with puzzles setting up a new nativity set
Here are my faves our elf did The toilet papered bathroom Christmas story mania - all of our Christmas stories out and open.. The garland zip line And the painted noses
OMG! I had never heard of this tradition before, but it is ADORABLE!!! What fun! I can't wait to see everyone's elf antics!
I found this just a few minutes ago on Pinterest... http://www.hollyatnaptime.com/2011/12/funny-creative-elf-on-shelf-ideas.html
This is my 2nd year with the elf, but we had a stuffed Grinch before that. Here's what we did last year... https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2764560792378.2150264.1208630875&type=1&l=8f9f03ca9d Here's my pin board... http://pinterest.com/tracyfish/elf-on-a-shelf-ideas/ And here's what we've done so far this year... Rudolph pancakes He got a little crazy with shaving Dad's head and spray painting Mom and Dad's hair with green hairspray. And he made q-tip snowflakes...
LOL...I actually picked up one at Kmart the other day to do this same thing. Last year he was in the car with the radio blaring and the windshield wipers going so I thought this would be a little different, but still let him ride to school with us.
Snowball just wrote out "Be Good" with toilet paper on the living room floor. The kids thought that was hilarious!
