Hi. I just joined Scrapstacks. After stacking all my layouts I realize that I don't do much clustering. So I was wondering, do you cluster? How important is clustering to a good layout? Do I need to learn to cluster better if I want to get on a CT? Do you have any suggestions for learning to cluster well? I just can't seem to wrap my mind around it so I have cluster free layouts. Thanks for your help!
hmm... Yes, I cluster a lot when I started.. Shadowing is really important in clustering..getting on a CT really depends on who are you applying for and what is the designer style.. I so so so love your style!! The best I guess is to try out all styles..
I cluster but that has always kind of been my style. You do not need to be a cluster person to be on a CT. There are some gorgeous minimal scrappers that do not cluster. I would even know where to begin when to comes to those pages. I actually often use templates that have clusters to feel good about clustering. I also took a class over at Big Picture classes about clustering as well as Peppermint's shadowing class. But I wouldn't stress too much about it. Often I just throw everything I want on the page and then just mess with it until it looks right. Look at pages that have clustering that you like and dissect as to why you like the clusters. Do they group things in a way that is interesting. Have fun!
I used to do that a lot and will occasionally try it again from time to time. I like to scrap pretty clean now though. I think it is more who you apply to on whether or not you will make the team. Some designers like clustering and some do not. Personal taste I suppose.
I am not, never have been and seriously doubt I ever will be a clusterer. I have been on a number of CTs over the years (so many of my designers have retired..it still makes me sad). Honestly I think designers are searching for a variety of styles to show off how their kits can be used in different ways. My advice is to do what you love and it will show in your layouts, if you try to force a style you don't love it will only serve to make you hate what you do. However, if you love the look and want to learn how to do it then you should go for it, learn what you can and do what makes you happy!
i can cluster but honestly i dont think its that that gets youon a ct hun my advice to you would make yourself known in the digi world especially the place you would like to ct for,use there products, post in there forum,i started off here on jacque and amy wolffs team and applied for a polly not thinking for one minute i would get in,but i did and thats going back a few years now
I have an odd style. I layer heavy and cluster EVERYTHING LOL My style is hit or miss with designers and what they are looking for.
She lies. She has an awesome style. I like to cluster, but I don't think that's what got me on ct's really.
from a designer point of view, when looking to add a CT member I don't look at whether you cluster or not. Here's some of the stuff I look for: - the overall compositions of your pages - do I think your scrapping style would compliment my designing style - do you scrap in a style that I don't yet have on my team, I like to have a variety of different styles - are you a regular scrapper - do your pages get views in the galleries if you want to try clustering, I would suggest scraplifting some pages that have clustering. I am in awe of people that can cluster, I'm not one of them. Carly's pages (snaggletooth) always amaze me with the number of elements she can get onto a page, but I would go crazy even trying to get half that amount on my page.
I am not a huge clusterer. I do not think good clustering makes or breaks a layout, but if you are going to cluster, then drop shadowing appropriately makes a huge difference. As far as CT goes- it would not matter to me at all if you were a "clusterer" and you were applying for my team. It just depends on style, and I am more minimalist. But I would also happily accept a clusterer on my team to reflect the versatility of my kits. The bottom line is- you just need to find your style, and if clustering is not it, then I wouldn't worry about not doing it at all!
I also don't think you need it, unless you like clustering and want to learn. I like to do both types of pages, it all depends what kits/products I'm using while working on a page. I would recommend trying different styles until you find one that you like,
LOL I just said my style was "off" to some designers. Some love it and quite a few think it's to busy. But that's OK. I'm a hyper kinda girl LOL I would be more than willing to help you Roni!!!
