So, it's been over 5 weeks since I cut back on sugar and simple carbs. Now when I have a cookie, I literally lapse into a carb coma! Like within half an hour I'm super-lethargic and laying on the couch. Is this normal? :dizzy

I don't know! I'm doing the same thing as you - no sugars (except what occurs naturally) and low carb. I do have a cheater meal every week, but I haven't chosen sweets, its been pizza or a burrito. I haven't noticed any lethargy with it, but that is not to say its not normal. Interesting.

You guys are amazing! I have tried to cut back and then if I dig into something sweet, I get the same reaction as you mentioned, Christine. I think the sugar is so bad for us, when we haven't had it forever it totally freaks our bodies out. Why is it so good? awk.

When I'm pregnant{which I am now} I am diabetic and have to go off of sugar and most carbs. When I do indulge in sugar during pregnancy my blood sugar goes up high really fast and I get tired and lethargic. I would assume your body is doing the same thing. It isn't used to sugar so your body wacks out and shoot your blood sugar way up producing the lethargic effect. By no means are you diabetic but you now know what one feels like.

PS...I'm not a doctor, just stating what I THINK could be happening.

Kudos for the cut backs! I really need to join you in this! I can't speak to the normalcy but it SOUNDS like it would be normal as your body is adjusting and now kind of spazzes out with sugar.

I agree with Sara... I can't say for sure, but I would think that's why.

And good for you! I did pretty good when I was working, but since I've been back home babysitting, I've let some things go. Time to go load up on the fruit and veggies!

I think it has something to do with your energy levels spiking and falling dramatically when you eat sugar and especially when your body has got used to not having it so often. I did this last year for a while and felt so much better, must get back on it.

Yep, what they said. Blood sugar spikes and crashes. Not a fun feeling. And I do notice it as well when I've been eating well and then make some not-so-good choices!

Yup I have had that before too, such a weird feeling. Almost like a drug effect.

i actually had that yesterday! It was horrible! But serves me right for drinking the amount of soda that I did.
We usually don't have it in the house at all so I wasn't used to it.

I wish I was strong enough to do what you are doing! But I have such a sweet tooth. And I'm not sure what I would eat if I couldn't have bread. I can't drink milk so it's toast for breakfast every day for me. I should have more fruit in my diet, but I really don't like most fruits. The only ones I love are expensive or not available most of the time.

I cut out almost all sodas and it was weird at first but now I'm not bothered so much by it. Next will be getting rid of the 'white' stuff (sugars, flour, salt, breads, potatoes). That's going to hurt me!
