Easter eggs or Hot Cross Buns? As I am not a big chocolate fan (shock horror ), I prefer Hot Cross Buns though I haven't had any for awhile....I can get some that are gluten free but I'm intolerant to another ingredient in the gluten free ones and I haven't found a recipe without it yet. I am hoping to make Low FODMAP Hot Cross Muffins though over the weekend
Happy Easter Jennifer! I hope you enjoy the muffins. I’ve never had hot cross buns so I guess I should! I prefer Easter eggs filled with candy or money.
Why choose? Totally both. Hot cross buns with raisins and the plain chocolate ones any time and the eggs are delivered on Easter Sunday. Chocolate is my kryptonite.
Happy Easter!!! (Jennifer re your question: Neither... I cannot eat egg unless it is part of a recipe... eggs in regular form cooked re hard boiled over easy etc makes me ill in my stomach.. scrambled has to be extra well done and even then I still have stomach issues.. no idea why as I love the smell of them cooking and can cook with them/eat them in baking etc., but the yoke bothers my stomach for whatever reason.. same reason I always had issue with flu shots due to raw egg.. I am weird I know. Also I am not a gooey bun type of person either LOL I like a muffin or something like that but cinnamon buns etc., are not my favorite, so it is a nope LOL
Never had a hot crossed bun.... But we dye a lot of eggs and even though my kids are older now ... we hide Easter eggs on Easter still and than have a huge hunt for all extended family kids too that come for Easter dinner at my parents... plastic eggs with candy and coins ... we hide over 700 eggs
Hot Cross Buns weren't a part of our Easter celebration growing up. Kids and GKs are grown now, but we used to dye eggs, hunt plastic eggs filled with candy with extended family, and the Easter Bunny brought us baskets filled with little toys, a stuffie and lots of candy. When I was a kid, my sisters and I got three baskets ... one from the bunny, then my grandmother and great-aunt used to make us baskets too. Color us spoiled, lol!!! I am making Chase (18) an Easter basket, but this is likely the last one. I'm guessing my 27 y.o. granddaughter is going to be unhappy that I didn't make her one, however she won't be here for Easter, so ... Chase is getting candy (including a chocolate bunny), a small (4.5") Squishmallow bunny, and Uno "show em no mercy" card game.
Hot Cross Buns! Which I haven't had in years. But growing up, we always had hot cross buns during Holy Week.
Both, it's always been for different days for us - buns for Good Friday, eggs on Easter Sunday. This is my favourite gluten-free Hot Cross Bun recipe, but I don't know whether it would suit you. It requires a bit of commitment time-wise. https://www.gnom-gnom.com/gluten-free-keto-hot-cross-buns/#recipe
Yesterday, we went to the large grocery market near us that usually stocks everything and they had no hot cross buns. And sadly, the clerks did not know what they were. I guess Easter eggs win this year. Happy Easter.
Thanks for thinking of me but it has not one but two of the ingredients I am intolerant to unfortunately.
I've never had a hot cross bun or known anyone to make/have them. I did learn how to play the song on flute in sixth grade. I don't like real eggs, either, though!
I've never had hot cross buns, so I'll have to say eggs! I made deviled eggs at home yesterday and they were really yummy. I haven't made them myself in years, so I was surprised how easy they were and how well they turned out... even if I did dirty a ton of dishes and utensils just to make them. I pulled out my hand mixer to whip the yolks and mayo and mustard together quicker and then I pulled out my Pampered Chef decorator to put the mix back into the eggs. That made it so much easier than the last time I made them, when I did it by hand with a spoon. Kitchen gadgets for the win!
I use my food processor to chop up the egg yolks, but I discovered that I judge the quantity of Miracle Whip or mayo needed to the "feel" of the mixture since I just eyeball amounts. So I went back to hand stirring the ingredients together. Then I use two "dinner" teaspoons to fill the whites ... I scoop with one teaspoon, then use the other to scrap the yolk mixture off the one spoon into the egg. I've done it this way for so many years it's quick and easy for me.
