For the past couple of years now I have been celebrating August, the month in which I joined the Design Team at the LilyPad, with a special edition - designer hosted challenge.

August 2023 marks the Fifth Anniversary of me joining TLP Design Team :beat and you are invited to join me this month to celebrate by sharing our craft, getting creative and getting another page scrapped.

Winners coupons for this month have been increased and will be available for 5 scrappers!

For a little fun let's continue with the theme of '5' into our challenge by creating a new page or project that adheres to the following recipe:

5 - (at least) Five different mixed mediums that you'd typically find on a mixed media background to create contrast and texture and a base for the rest of your page. I'll leave the choosing to your discretion but at least two of these must be paints or stamped elements or messy marks and the other three should all be different textures from each other. They could be items from the following list: torn paper or ephemera, fabric bits, lace or ribbon bits, messy threads and stitching, confetti or sequins, washi tapes etc.

4 - (at least) Four botanical themed elements, these can be present on ephemera, can be painted or stamped elements, they could be made from fabric or paper etc. as long as they are botanical in theme.

3 - (at least) Three dimensional elements of any type should be present on your page to add contrast. If you have chosen dimensional elements for the five different mixed medium requirement and/or the four botanical themed element requirement please ensure that your three dimensional elements are in addition to the others already chosen and used.

2 - (at least) Two techniques or themes combined from any of our past challenges from 2023 so far - Here's a reminder of the themes (Jan - Practise of building a page from scratch, Feb - multi-photo mixed media page, Mar - Recipe, Apr - Mixed Media papers , May - Shadows , Jun - Journaling prompts, Jul - Tips for creating Ephemera Clusters and using stamps to support composition ).

1 - (at least) One line of journaling or one title, or one word bit or one phrase or journaling prompt, a little something to help remind yourself about the moment or memory or your feelings.

Aly and Ann-Sofie from my team have completed example challenge layouts to inspire us!

    Challenge Requirements:
    • Create a new page that adheres to the recipe list above.
    • You'll end up with a page that has combined two different techniques from our past 2023 challenges to date and that includes at least five different mixed mediums, four botanical elements, three dimensional elements and a line of journaling or title or word bit etc.
    • Photos are optional and your background paper or papers can be of your choice.
    • Use at least 75% of Rachel's Product. Any remaining percentage must be product from another current TLP designer.
    • The product can be currently available in the TLP Shop or be retired products from Rachel or a current TLP designer.

    • Upload your layout to the Rachel Jefferies Designs Gallery at TLP with your product credits.
    • For your challenge entry to be counted, you MUST upload your finished layout to this thread. Please link your gallery image to your post in this thread, as it helps us leave love on your layout (and validate your project).
    • No double-dipping… your layout must be created for this challenge only, no others. You must create a NEW layout for this challenge.
    • This challenge will remain open for the monthly coupons through 31st August 2023.
    Prizes and other important notes:

Thank you for the coupon. It made my day!
As I try to understand the challenge, there are really 15 things I must include (5+4+3+2+1). Is this correct? (two of them {#2} are theme or technique)

    You're welcome @quietgirl !!

Yes, if you scroll down a bit to the Challenge Requirement text I've tried to summarise your checklist / recipe / scavenger hunt . .
    • You'll end up with a page that has combined two different techniques from our past 2023 challenges to date and that includes at least five different mixed mediums, four botanical elements, three dimensional elements and a line of journaling or title or word bit etc.
So yes you'd have at least 12 things on your page + the Journaling requirement - that could be typed or it could be a word art type elements + the two different techniques from the past challenges requirement.

    Hope that makes sense :beat

I put a layer of paint then stamped images, added fabric and papers then used impasto to smooth out and semi-cover the layers. Botanical are stamps, flower on paper bit, photo and a twig. Dimensional are the messy thread, scatter, twisted ribbon. Two techniques are (Jan) building a page from scratch and (Jul) using stamps to support. One line word art.

    Happy Anniversary!

5 - (at least) Five different mixed mediums: stamp, cards, threads, paint, fabric. (So glad you said "at least"!)

4 - (at least) Four botanical themed elements: 2 flowers and 2 leaves

3 - (at least) Three dimensional elements: butterfly, flag, camera

2 - (at least) Feb - multi-photo mixed media page, Apr - Mixed Media papers , May - Shadows , Jun - Journaling prompts, Jul - Tips for creating Ephemera Clusters and using stamps to support composition ). I think I used all of these.

1 - (at least) One line of journaling or one title: journaling, title and word bits.

I know that right photo could stand on its own, but this is for my photo album and I already have plenty of pages on this location. It really is spectacular!

This was such an interesting challenge...Creating to combine already completed challenges & much more specific items to include on your page...As,most of you know,I am going through a difficult personal healing journey [from my near fatal fall : broken neck : broken arm : now permanent neuropathy in legs & feet ] ...& then my precious, beloved, husband,of 26 years,Ray,got sick, fell in our apartment and ended up in the hospital...We found out he had terminal Stage 4 Cancer that had started in his throat & had spread to his beautiful, kind, loving, sweet brain...We were all devastated, especially me...It has now been almost 3 months...[on September 9th...it will be...]...since my beloved,Ray...has passed away...I miss him more with each passing day...So this layout is a continuation in the series of Grief layouts that I have been creating,as a means of personal therapy...

***Reflections About My Experiences...Going Through A Near Fatal Fall...& Grieving the sudden loss of my beloved, husband Ray to Stage 4 Brain Cancer...***

I guess the theme here, with this layout,is what I call "Embers"...I can only remember & feel the whole of our 26 years together...The good, the bad,the inbetween...well everything...How is it...that I'm supposed to figure out how to move through my thick,heavy,guilt...feelings of fear, deep depression & deep sadness?...I'm not used to being alone at all...26 years with the same amazing! man!...How does one move on from that?...& figure out how to be all alone?...I still can't really fathom that my beautiful soul of a man,my beloved Ray...has gone & left me all alone...He told me,almost daily, that we were gonna be together forever...[as it turned out...his forever...]...I still hear his voice...see his face...Slowly,I am trying to,sift through our Wonderful! life & try to either, give away, donate or vacate...some of his things...I feel guilty every time I do this...[and cry most often,after...]...but I know it is time to start doing this...I can only do this on what I call my "good days" when I somehow feel stronger...if only for a short time...& only a few things & then I must stop...because I am both exhausted & depleted emotionally...So...my layout...is my picture taken on June 9th,the day Raymond passed [created for another of Rachel's Monthly Challenges] but a different picture...& ties to one of the rules for this particular challenge...The "Embers" Theme...of our love,life,hearts,memories...I have tried to visually showcase some of those feelings...in this layout...These Embers keep burning strong in my heart & soul...& will,be forever there...As love never ever dies...Not real love, that is...His heart & soul will be forever : eternal...like those magic "Embers"... of love & life...that will stay with me...While I question why & how this happened?...While I try to figure out who I am now? moving forward...How much "Progress"...can I or will I make?...How many memories will I keep in my heart?...Will I always remember those special times spent together?...Our unfulfilled dreams?...Will I have the "Courage" to "Persist"...to move forward without him?...Again,I don't have the answers...As each new day comes...I delve into each one,as I only know how...Searching for answers...Searching for some peace...Searching for my now, uncertain future...alone...

The Rules For This Challenge :

5 - (at least) Five different mixed mediums - YES: paint, messy threads,confetti,sequins,stamps,stitching,5 yellow paper pieces
