Who else is in the path of the terrible blizzard that is sweeping the country? (US) It's supposed to hit here in Michigan anytime now, but we don't have anything yet. They have already started closing things for tomorrow in preparation around town. It's weird because it's snows and is cold and windy all the time in Michigan, I don't understand (yet) why they are making such a big deal about this storm. They are only calling for 10-18" of snow... we get that all the time too.
I'm in Kansas City and we typically don't get much snow. We're projected to get 15 - 17 inches in my part of the metro, which will be one of the top 10 snowfalls ever here. My kids are home from school today. Everything is closed, gov. offices, malls, etc etc. I grew up in the snowbelt so it doesn't really bother me, BUT my DH is in NYC this week for work. I don't think he will make it home on Thursday. As long as the power stays on, I'm good!
ok so i have a new favorite website re: weather. have you heard of swacket.com ? Fabulous! go test drive your city. and then test drive other ones to see how adorable it is.
I live in Ontario, right on the Michigan border and we're forecasted to get over a foot. We did get a preliminary dusting overnight, but nothing close to what's on the way. I'm working from home most of this week, so I'm kind of looking forward to it... we haven't had a real decent snowfall yet this winter. Stay warm everyone!
I'm in OK and it's already been here. :| We want to go outside to play but it's sooooooooo unbearably cold.
It's just rainy here in TN, thankfully. It looks like we're going to miss out on this one, and boy am I glad. The kids have missed at least a day of school every week since they went back in January, they're going to run out of snow days at this rate. And snow makes me barf.
The snow has already come and gone, "only" 5.2 inches. However, our windchill tonight is going to hit -50 degrees. I'm a little worried that my hubby has to work in it, yuck! My mom says we won't have school tomorrow (this from the woman who knows how hard it is to EVER get a snow day in this town) because it would be too dangerous for the kids to stand at bus stops, or heaven forbid, walk to school.
That happened to us in MN in Dec. They canceled everything the night before when it wasn't even snowing. I was mystified. But after the storm. Not so mystified. It was definitely the worst snowstorm we have had here since we moved here 15 years ago. I was sooooo thankful everything was canceled. The storm is farther south for us. We had snow all day yesterday but it was very mild and everyone is so darn sick/use to the snow that it just didn't stop anything. But today is all sunshine and Coooooooooold. It's going to be even colder tomorrow. You stay safe and warm though!!
Count us in for the blizzard. We are in Oklahoma, just north of Tulsa and I just saw that our little town has 19" so far and 6 foot drifts. Craziness, since on Friday and Saturday we had 75 degrees and it was beautiful and we went to the zoo. They closed everything here yesterday too before it even started snowing last night. We are just staying in and praying that we keep our electricity.
yes, we're in. the front end of it just got here about a half hour ago. i'm kind of wondering the same thing you are karen - it's ohio. a foot and a half of snow and some ice is pretty much the norm, no? what's the big deal? idunno. but i had to go to the grocery yesterday just for a few normal things, and there was mass hysteria. it was nuts. a run on turnips and cauliflower. seriously? do you NEED to stock up on that for the weekend? i don't get it. my son said, 'i can't wait to see what a blizzard looks like.' i said, 'it looks like snow.' he said, 'oh, well that's dumb.' he is apparently underimpressed also. lol as long as the ice doesn't take out the power, i'm good with whatever. after already being w/o heat this weekend, i woudl prefer to keep my furnace RUNNING, thank you! i bumped it up to 73, though, just in case... that way we have a little farther to fall if we do loose power for a while. debra, enjoy the ca sunshine my dear!
Ha ha! Good stuff! It's started snowing here and blowing a little but I'm still waiting for the big show they're promising. I hope I don't have to eat my words. And yeah, Eryn, keep quiet!
it's deep here too! blowing like crazy.... snow every where... freezing cold... wind chill -30 argggggggggggg to cold! school's out today and tomorrow (so far) keep warm and safe everyone!
Another Michigander here - we started getting snow at 5:00 tonight - and winds have reallyh picked up. Saying a foot of snow - hubby cleared off the foot of snow that was on our deck already for fear that the deck wouldn't be able to hold much more! We'll see in the morning if the deck is covered again! I do think it's crazy that activities were cancelled tonight even, and schools have already announced for tomorrow, but I guess I can't complain because now I don't have to go into work tomorrow - they called and said they will be open with minimal staff so I don't need to go in! SNOW DAY!!! I can't wait to start my fire in the morning and make some cinnamon bread with the kids! I agree though Karen - have said it a few times today actually - we are in Michigan people!!! What do you expect - it's not like we don't have snow like this ever!
it's colder than we normally get here in my neck of the woods, but no snow. we had some ice and horrendous wind but none of the white stuff. they cancelled school here today though. us texans don't know how to act when it get this cold, you know? wind chill is sitting at a balmy 3 degrees right now. eta...i'm totally diggin' on swackett.com now, heather! thanks!
