Since it is getting so close to December I have started planning our advent calendar for this year. A few years ago I scored this lovely house at Target for 50% off.

I fill each day with a card or candy. The cards either have a task to do, or direct him to a gift (which are usually books or crafts). Which reminds me, I need to go hunt down the ones I bought last year on sale. I love shopping after Christmas sales!!

He is also getting a second calendar that is all Legos. I couldn't help myself since he loves them so much right now.

So what do you do to help your kids countdown to Christmas? Pictures are always welcome!

honestly, we do NOTHING. advent countdown has never really been a part of our family traditions. we just enjoy the season, no counting... plus i am world's MOST forgetfull person, so I would probably skip several days and defeat the purpose altogether. anything that requires every-day attention from me usually fails around here. :giggle

I used Jacques great advent tree calendar and the kids did enjoy it! I never grew up doing an advent calendar, so it's fairly new to me. I LOVE the house you got from Target - I need that!!! It would match my house perfectly! I was just at Target tonight and never looked in the Christmas area - how was it 50% off already though?!

I'm in the process of making mine - need to outsource the printing so hopefully will get that done tomorrow or Monday.

We've always done advent calendars or candles but it's getting increasingly difficult to find ones that aren't filled with chocolate which I think is really naff, I'm afraid. I'm using Jacque and Amber's calendar, and putting assorted christmas elements as the picture behind the doors. I don't think I could think of 24 activities! Other than repeating 'Go to school'! I've also put in some pictures of the girls at previous christmasses behind some of the doors.

OH Val that is so cool looking. But does it take you forever to put it up? I LOVE that house Lisa. I soooo want one. We've always done one from Lilly's:

But it really has finally died. So I'm going to have to come up with something new fast.

it actually doesn't! i use the velco sticky hanger thingies (lol) and start in the middle and then build out! It's different every year as far as placement since i just go with the flow stickin them up! plus it gets it up off of horizontal surfaces- and therefore not a dust collector! haha!

I am so not a hybrid person. I need someone to make me one! *lol*

I'm looking forward to when DD is old enough to appreciate one. SS is not with us most of the week, so I guess he'd appreciate being able to do 4 or 5 days at a time, but it doesn't really help with counting down the days properly. :)
