I remember when I first started in digi scrapping that templates were not as widely available as they are now and it was a little taboo to scrap with them. I love that times have changed and now you can find templates everywhere. There are so many different styles and I love looking through the store at them all. I personally almost always use a template to scrap with. I am usually drawn to templates with clean lines but love trying the artsy ones also. I will usually open my template in photoshop and I start by deleting all the embellishments so that I am just left with the bare bones of it and then I go from there. Since I started using templates it has completely changed my scrapping life. I used to sit for hours just looking at a blank canvas wondering where to start but now that I don't have to worry about the design it takes me about 20-30 minutes to put a page together. It also completely took away the stress that I would feel trying to come up with a new design each time. I leave that stress to the template makers now and it has been so freeing for me.

So how about you. Do you love templates? Has it helped any in your scrapping? Which ones are your favorites?

It depends on what mood I'm in... Sometimes I just enjoy the thrill of being able to create a page without a template and just let the story lead me... and sometimes I think a certain template would tell the story better... and sometimes it takes me longer to create a page with a template than it does to just create a page without...

When I use a template, I usually just use the paper and photo placements and delete the element placement layers and just go from there

I am 99% of the time a template scrapper. Now sometimes you may not be able to tell because it's changed so much and I've either hidden or moved tons of pieces... but I have the hardest time starting from scratch. I love being able to find different template designers to broaden my horizon and style but I also have my few I love... Val, Emily, Sara, Amy... sigh I love those girls!

Templates are my favorite scrapping supplies, by far. I will not admit to how many templates I have. I do use them about 99% of the time too. Sometimes I can look at one and "see" the story I want to tell. Sometimes I pick a template based on the number of photo slots or on the white space it offers.

I too think they are great to expand your scrapping style. I wanted to get better at clustering, used a bunch of Sara's templates and feel like I'm much better at it now. I wanted to get better at "more white space" scrapping and Amy's have really helped me expand that skill set.

I love templates. I am definitely a template scrapper. Even after I've used a template, I'll pull it in to PS and just delete everything but the photo spots and start from there.

    Templates = comfort

I'm sure that doesn't make sense! lol

Something about someone making shapes for me is what I love. Rasterizing shapes... That's crazy talk!!

I am still somewhat template challenged. I have a hard time making it my own and thinking outside the box, but I am working on it!!

I am definitely a template user--probably 80-90% of the time. And sometimes, I turn off the element layers and sometimes I use them.

I have also been known to modify the templates to suit my needs. Once I realized that I wasn't tied to the template (i.e. was NOT allowed to change anything!), I started really loving them. I like to combine them, rotate them, flip them to make 2 pagers, etc.

I also love having the shapes there for my photos.

I like templates. I use them probably half of the time. I really like pulling a page together on my own too, but when I'm not feeling inspired, there are just so many starters out there. Unlike others, I tend to use everything on the template unless something looks really weird, and then I add more on top of that, and delete anything out of place.

I heart templates and never seem to have enough! :) I often will open one up and start a page on it, but the page looks nothing like the original. I think it just helps to have something to get you started!

My favorite kind of templates are ones with lots and lots of photos. I like to scrap events - like birthday parties or Christmas or just fun days out - and templates makes all of that so simple! I usually even add more photo spots to them. But I also like templates that get me to try a different style - like the template challenge here.

I wasn't a template scrapper until recently (about 6 months ago), and now I scrap with templates probably 90% of the time.

I find that with a template, I no longer stress about finding the perfect placement. I feel more carefree in my scrapping now, and it takes far less time to complete a page. Now I can just enjoy picking papers to match my photos and then finding the right embellishments and I don't have to juggle this and that to make everything look balanced. Someone else has done that for me. :giggle

I have always loved templates but since going hybrid, I have a whole new love for them! I was always confused when I was a digi girl, how the hybrid girls did it. Did they just print random amount of paper? Wouldn't that be a waste of ink, especially to this white space scrapper? With templates I ONLY print what I will use, send it to the cameo and cut it out. I LOVE THEM!!

I'm not a template scrapper, but I still enjoy using them occasionally. Especially if I want to use patterned paper on my page. I am pp challenged so if I want to have scraps or strips of paper I tend to look for a template (or make one) to do it. I also use them when my mojo is missing!

It depends on my mood. When I'm pressed for time especially I do love them. I've grown and changed to the point where I'm comfortable interpreting templates in my own way...deleting, adding, moving, rotating, etc. But I also love making my own pages from scratch.

Even after being on Amy's team templates still scare me a little.
    :lol

For one thing... when I'm making my page I'm paranoid that someone else is going to have a page just like mine. I kid not. lol It bothers me. So I go so out of my way to try to do a different take on a template. Which means template pages take me 3-4 times longer than normal.

But I love looking at templates. I love the idea of them. And I seriously love what I see other people do with them. Other peoples' template pages fascinate me. lol

The people having pages like mine doesn't bother me nearly as much as it used to. Only because when they're printed in my book, nobody else will know! ;)

Oh yes, I love me some templates.

I don't like photo/PP placement in the first place, so it takes forever and all my pages look the same. Using the 'bare bones' of the template (deleting all the element layers) allows me to start on Step 2 of making a layout and saves me SO much stress and frustration and time. I want a page with my pictures and stories more than I want a page that doesn't or can't look like anyone else's, so it's templates for me. :beat

I never used to use templates because I thought that if you were using them, they should look exactly like the template, and I never had enough photos or elements or what-have-you. But then I realized that they aren't so rigid and the designers aren't going to hunt you down and yell at you if you change their template. :giggle

I'm like LA. If left to my own devices, I will always start out and do the same thing. I'll end up putting one photo on the right side of the page, toward the bottom, and then go from there. Templates force me out of my comfort zone. And I love using one and ending up with something that looks like I didn't use a template. That is the challenge I give to myself. I don't always succeed (with lack of time or inspiration), but at least I'm creating something.
