    Update - winner is Electra!
    ----------------------------------------

Here's a little thread of cheer and chatter for your DYD enjoyment... I'll be popping in over the weekend adding new thematic questions which I'll post below for you to answer if you'd like. Please start a new comment below for each new topic to be entered to win. You can answer any or all of the questions under a topic that resonate with you (or answer saying it does not apply to still get your additional entry - I get it that not everyone celebrates the same way or the same holiday). Come back over the weekend to see what new topic is up next. My goal is for these questions to spur ideas to cover on your DYD pages in the process.

    1) Topic Music: Which Christmas carol gets stuck in your head the most? Which holiday song would you slay at karaoke? Do you have a special holiday song that reminds you of someone special? When do you start listening to Christmas music (How soon is too early?)?

    2) Topic Trees: Describe your tree (size, variety, flocking or not, etc). Where do you go to get your tree, or do you use an artificial tree? Does your holiday tree stay up for months, or do you take it down soon after the holiday? What tree topper do you have? Who decorates the holiday tree in your home? When do you put up your tree? Do you have a theme for the decorations?

    3) Topic Travel: Do you stay home for the holidays or travel? If you travel, do you go see family or go to a destination? Have your travel plans ever been disrupted by weather or transit delays? Have you ever been stuck in an airport over the holidays? If you could spend the holidays anywhere, where would you choose to go?

    4) Topic Gifts/Shopping: What is the most memorable gift-opening moment from your childhood? Have you ever opened a holiday gift before you were supposed to as a child? What is the coolest gift you ever gave someone? What gift are you most excited to give this year? What kind of holiday shopper are you: Black Friday, Christmas Eve, or yearlong hoarder (When do you start thinking about buying your presents)? What was the best holiday present you ever received? What is the coolest present you have ever received during a Secret Santa? What is the best $5 gift to give someone? Do you buy presents for lots of people or only the people who are closest to you? Do you buy holiday gifts for your pets? What's on your wish list?

    5) Topic Food:
What is your favorite holiday treat? What is your favorite holiday food? Do you have a traditional family menu each year? Are you a cook-all-day-for-holiday dinner type of person, or an order-in type of person? What dish can you do without on your holiday table? Who cooks the holiday dinner (meal) at your house? Do you have a favorite Christmas/holiday cookie?

    6) Topic Cards: Are you sending out Christmas/Season's Greetings/New Years cards this year? If not, did you used to do it, and what made you stop? If yes, do you feature or include a photo or an update? Do you purchase cards or make them?

    7) Topic Decorations: Do you put up lights and if so when? What decorations do you use to make your home festive for the holidays (figurines, wreath, flags/crops, candles, menorah, etc.)? Do you place decorations around your home, yard, or windows?

    8) Topic Traditions: Do you attend religious services or have any religious observances at home as part of your holidays (church service, midnight mass, prayers, lighting candles etc.)? Are there any family traditions or legends shared to the next generation (setting up the crèche, Santa, putting out cookies, reindeer food, reading 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, seeing the Nutcracker, retelling the story of the Maccabees, setting off fireworks etc)? Do you have any traditional games or family activities (baking gingerbread houses, seeing the Nutcracker etc.)? Do you participate in Elf on the Shelf (If so, what's the funniest spot you've placed your Elf? Is you Elf named?)?

    9) Topic Movies/TV: Is there a holiday movie you try to watch every year, or do you have a favorite? Which holiday movie do you think is overrated? If you had to be trapped in a holiday movie, which would it be and why? Did you grow up watching the children's Christmas classics like A Charlie Brown Christmas on tv as a child?

    PSA -
    • A Charlie Brown Christmas will be available to stream for free on Apple TV+ on December 14–15, 2024. No subscription is required to watch during this two-day period. It will not be on network television as Apple now owns the rights to it.
    • Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer will air on NBC Friday, Dec. 6, 8-9:15 p.m. (encore on Dec. 12 at 8 p.m.)
    • Frosty the Snowman will air on NBC Thursday, Dec. 5, 8:30-9 p.m. (encore on Dec. 11 at 8 p.m.)
    • Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town will air on Freeform on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 12:55 AM and on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 4:30 PM.
    • Freeform announced it's 25 Days of Christmas schedule

    10) Topic Holiday Clothing: Do you take a family photo each year where plan outfits to coordinate? Do you get matching PJs? Do you have an ugly sweater? Do you dress up or just get cozy? Do you have a red sweater that you wear every year? What are you wearing to get festive?

    Rules:
Please start a new comment for each new topic. If you are finding this game late, you can catch up and blast out a bunch of posts to get your entries. Each new comment is an entry and I'll pick a random winner for a $3 coupon at the end of our celebration. Challenge closes Monday, November 11th at 11:59pm EST.

    1. A few years back Pentatonix did an acoustic version of Carol of the Bells and I loved it so much, I know all the words to that song now lol, so I'd say that's the one that gets stuck in my head, and sure, i'll call it my karaoke song too though I hate karaoke lol I'm a strictly "Christmas comes AFTER Thanksgiving" person. We don't skip Thanksgiving!

    1. Feliz Navidad. I teach a Zumba Gold class each week and as soon as Thanksgiving is over the Christmas songs are added to the playlist and this one has been a class favorite for years so it just keeps coming back for over 10 years! Once I even think of it... it is on repeat in my head. It is now there... thank you very much LOL.

    1) Topic Music:
Which Christmas carol gets stuck in your head the most? 'White Christmas' (The Drifters version :happy), and I'm waiting for the new cover by Bing Crosby and V from BTS!! I can't wait!! Just a little joy in these dark times...
Which holiday song would you slay at karaoke? 'Last Christmas' by Wham! I love this song!
When do you start listening to Christmas music (How soon is too early?)? I don't really care about the 'right' time, I listen any music I like whenever I want or feel the need to.

Which Christmas carol gets stuck in your head the most? I think it's Feliz Navidad for me too. Always enjoy it, but it always gets stuck in my head after I hear it. Lol.

Which holiday song would you slay at karaoke? Um... not slaying anything karaoke related. :rofl I'll stick to singing in groups thank you very much. HA! (but I do LOVE singing Silent Night in four part harmony with my choir... I'm an alto)

Do you have a special holiday song that reminds you of someone special? Little Drummer Boy always reminds me of my oldest son. He fell in love with that song as a kid and would put it on repeat over and over.

When do you start listening to Christmas music (How soon is too early?)? After thanksgiving. There aren't enough holiday songs as it is and I get sick of hearing the same ones over and over if I start too soon. My youngest son did start playing Christmas music in the kitchen on November 1st just for a laugh though. Silly kid.

Describe your tree (size, variety, flocking or not, etc). Where do you go to get your tree, or do you use an artificial tree? We have a 7.5 ft artificial tree. Last year, we finally decided to get a tree again after not having one for years and I fell in love with a tree at Target - 7 ft, white lights, on a great sale... and it kept getting sold out from under me. My inbox was all curbside pickup and then refund messages as store after store failed to set it aside and someone bought the last one. I CRIED. My mom & husband took turns taking me to store after store to try to find a similar tree and at the third WalMart (and we're not going to mention how many total stores), we found a 7.5ft tree that could do colorful or white lights that was slightly above our budget and my husband just grabbed it and dragged it to the register. He really wanted colorful lights (and most nights, that is what we set it to) and finding the perfect compromise that made us both so happy was worth it. Not sure what variety exactly but I don't think it's a Douglas fir; my husband's name is Doug and he would never let me make nonstop jokes like that. No flocking but I do like to hang those tree-scent things from the branches to be fancy.

Does your holiday tree stay up for months, or do you take it down soon after the holiday? It came down late December/early January last year. In years past, we made a makeshift tree out of our son's Nugget (play furniture) and that went up Christmas Eve and came down Christmas morning so he could play with it.

What tree topper do you have? We don't. It's not something that's important to either of us.

Who decorates the holiday tree in your home? We do it as a family. Nugget tree was husband & I but new tree was all 3 of us (plus my mom). I put up a few ornaments but mostly take photos because "it's for the scrapbook!"

When do you put up your tree? Last year it was after Thanksgiving but there's some talk of doing it earlier so we can stage photos and send out a card to his family this year.

Do you have a theme for the decorations?
It's a mish-mash of things that bring us joy (last year, mom bought Star Wars ornaments for husband and kiddo) and random regifted ornaments. My family is Jewish but people give mom ornaments every year and she politely regifts them to us. Christmas is very much for the scrapbook but celebrating with our son brings my husband so much joy. We're going to end up with a lot of holly ornaments because we're the Hollingsworths.

Music: "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" runs around and around in my head this time of year. I try not to listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving but then listen a lot. We have a radio station devoted entirely to Christmas music, so that one is on a lot in my car.

Tree: We try to put our tree up Thanksgiving weekend and take it down on New Year's Day. After Christmas, it starts to feel really cluttery and I itch to take it all down! We had a BIG tree for years but it always seemed like we had to cram it into someplace it didn't really fit (hubby always wants it in the family room with us) and it took forever to "fluff" (artificial tree) and to decorate. So, when that one finally died, we got a much smaller one -- still "normal" tree sized, but thinner and shorter so it's easier to handle. One of the reasons we like to decorate on Thanksgiving weekend is that my adult children are here so we can all take a hand at decorating a bit.

Oh and we live in the dessert so we use artificial trees. Most real trees are trucked in from elsewhere and are dry-sh to begin with and then after being up for weeks in the dessert climate, they are totally crunchy dry and all the needles are falling off. Some people here will actually toss their new tree into their pool for a day to let it soak up a lot of water but we've never tried that.

Where do you go to get your tree, or do you use an artificial tree? Artificial one, not so big .
Does your holiday tree stay up for months, or do you take it down soon after the holiday? It depends on my mood.
What tree topper do you have? A star.
When do you put up your tree? Usually on December 1st.

    2) Topic Trees: Describe your tree (size, variety, flocking or not, etc). For the past couple of years, it's been a Fraser fir. Some years it's a Balsam fir. No flocking.

Where do you go to get your tree, or do you use an artificial tree? Sometimes from a local tree farm, sometimes from the local Kiwanis Club

Does your holiday tree stay up for months, or do you take it down soon after the holiday? I like to keep it up until January 6

What tree topper do you have? A star

Who decorates the holiday tree in your home? Me!

When do you put up your tree? Early December

Do you have a theme for the decorations? I have a bit of candy cane theme. Many of my ornaments are red, white, or red/white, and I have a lot of stripey ornaments, and I always add candy canes to the tree

It is a green artificial 7 or 8 feet tall. I don't have it out yet LOL. I never put my tree up until after Thanksgiving. Usually not until the first week of December. We have had this tree for MANY years and every year we say we need to start looking for a new one because it is wearing out, but we never do. It is usually me that decorates the tree now that the kids are grown. I like the tree to be down by Jan 1. I just need to get things back in order and cleaned up. The past several years I have made a big ribbon bow for the top but we have also had a star or an angel many times in the past. Last year I did the tree in just silver and green. Not sure what I will decide on this year. I don't go buy new decorations but I do have enough stuff that I can kind of mix and match to come up with a new theme or design each year.

Do you stay home for the holidays or travel? Christmas MUST be at home, I mean with family (the whole family, only the close ones, big, small, but home with family), travelling can happen before or after that time.

What kind of holiday shopper are you: Black Friday, Christmas Eve, or yearlong hoarder (When do you start thinking about buying your presents)? Do you buy presents for lots of people or only the people who are closest to you? I buy presents for my people, the ones I love and who are always there for me; knowing them quite well, when I see something I think they would love I buy it or write it down, but it's not really yearlong, I'd say I start to look around in October/this time of the year (unless it's something I know it would take a lot of time to get it).
What's on your wish list? Right now I only wish to get safe and sound to 2025 (and beyond...).

i don't know what it says about me but i still love 'Grandma got run over by a reindeer' and love parodies over traditional carols
    [IMG]
I think the most underrated traditional carol is Good King Wenceslas even though i have no idea who he was or what the feast of stephen was
