MASKED

MASKED

Description:
I really thought the days of being absolutely terrified of being masked were over or at least I knew how to control my anxiety around . The terror of being masked first started with a day stay ENT procedure as a young child. I had been nil by mouth since very early on and my procedure wasn’t happening until 4pm that day. I hopped on to the operating theatre bed aka “ironing board” and was calm until the general anesthetic mask came down - I freaked out & ran right out of the operating theatre. Needless to say that wasn’t a success. Over the next few years I worked with a peadatric psychologist who helped me get over it and have techniques I could have in place for the following surgery at 15 years old. Being put under by IV rather than mask was the ideal solution. Years passed without any surgery or medical procedure needing a mask until I was tested and diagnosed with sleep apnea. The initial testing was all ok but as soon as I became aware of the mask and having to try and sleep with it on I panicked yet again and all my negative thoughts of being masked came back to haunt me again to the point I haven’t been able to use it in almost five years on my own. Maybe one day I will finally get over my fear & terror of being masked once and for all.

Childhood and health trauma are scary, Jennifer! Perfect mask, epoxies and ellies to share your story. Great working in the title to the journaling, it was exactly what I wanted to see!

@LynnG Thanks for the compliment. To be honest I actually think at times my journaling is my weak point but then again we are our own harshest critics at times
