journaling: Back in 2017, Mom was diagnosed with a compression fracture that resulted in a month long stay in the hospital and then a rehab facility. They were still living in the house I grew up in, a small colonial with the bedrooms upstairs. That house was no longer a good fit for them (too many stairs), so it was time to find someplace new with everything on one floor. When Mom was discharged, they stayed at our house with Mark and I, since we have a bedroom on the first floor. They lived with us for just over a year until they found a house in a new development that was perfect for them. A two-bedroom ranch, where the yard would be taken care of in the summer and the driveway would be plowed in the winter. They moved in July of 2019. Well, in December that same year, Mom was diagnosed with another compression fracture and over the next few months was in and out of hospitals and rehab facilities with other complications on top of that, including finding another compression fracture. She was finally well enough to be discharged in March, but it would have been too much for Dad to take care of her alone if she went home to their house. So they moved back in with us. At this same time, Mark found out he was being laid off from work. With my work schedule, I work about 50 hours a week and with Mark being home, he offered to take care of Mom and have them stay with us again. It makes me sad, that Mom and Dad bought this beautiful new house and weren't able to enjoy it for very long. Dad said buying that house was the worst decision he ever made, but hindsight is 20/20. Who would have known that Mom would have these health struggles and that Mark would lose his job. But with Mark at home and taking such good care of her, it has allowed her to be with us and to improve. Not back to where she was just a couple of years ago, but definitely better than she was last winter. I appreciate all the time that I am able to spend with Mom taking care of her and having her here.

That is such terrible luck but I hope soon your dad will be okay with that decision too. It sounds like you guys are doing the best you can! Here's to a better 2020!
