- Journaling: I was 32 weeks pregnant when I started having contractions off and on...however they never got closer together..so I went to ER. They hooked me up to fetal monitor and heartbeat sounded fine so they watched me for hour or so and was about to release me...in fact the nurse had already removed the iv, when the doctor came back and and placed buzzer on my stomach to see if he could detect any fetal movement. He was unable to and they hooked me back up to IV and told me to get some rest as I would be induced the following morning. 7:00 am or so they start meds for inducing...I asked for epidural but due to the anesthesiologist taking so long, I ended up going au natural...at 9:22 on 9/2/04, my baby boy Rell was born. He was 5lbs 10oz and had a head full of hair. He seemed to be doing fine. I was ecstatic..I had been so worried that something was wrong when they couldn't get any fetal movement. They took him to nursery to do normal baby tests on him and they noticed he seemed to have a hard time keeping his temperature up. While in they were watching, they noticed he appeared to be having seizures. They immediately called pediatric neurologist, gave my tiny little man an EEG and realized that he had suffered a stroke in utero which caused him to develop seizures as well as hemiplegiac cerebral palsy. He spent 25 days in the NICU before he could come home. He has been in weekly therapy since he was 2 months old. Now my baby boy is 8 years old and he brought home his first report card in third grade and I had tears in my eyes as I read the letter that accompanied it. Not only is he recieving an award in the honors ceremony..he is also receiving a $50 bond for academic achievement!I thank God for all the prayers, support, and love that have helped my baby boy reach this milestone!
