“Oh boys, today is going to be so fun! We are off on an adventure. You are going to love it!” said mom. “Is everyone going?” Tanner wanted to know. “Of course, everyone is going! Mom exclaimed. She felt her heart skip a beat knowing that she had a special surprise in store for the boys as well. Talon and Tanner, Trampis and Ella helped grandpa gather the fishing gear and load up the truck with supplies and a picnic to boot! After a work filled morning, we were on our way to the ranch, 40 miles from the nearest town. Talon, Tanner, Taz, Kim. Ky, Krissy, Grandma and Grandpa all loaded up. The boys were so curious as to what our adventure was going to be. Much to their surprise, we were not headed out of town. This is what mom had been waiting for…we stopped in front of Rob and Jodi’s house, ”Trey! Yay!”, the boys all proclaimed in unison, “Trey is coming!” they happily made room for Trey not noticing the big smile on mom’s face. Now they headed out of town. The car ride was filled with stories from grandpa and some singing and a lot of laughter. It made the 50 min drive fly by. When they got to the ranch, they headed to the farm house so Grandpa could talk to his brother Dennis who lived there with his family. The boys and Ella headed to the chicken coop with Ky and Krissy to pay a visit and look for eggs. It was a beautiful summer day with bees buzzing near the raspberry bushes and birds chirping near the babbling brook. We all headed to the barn to help Uncle Dennis check on the cows and pigs. It took a lot of helpers to keep the ranch running and everyone was more than happy to help. After chores were done, Dennis invited us all to stay for dinner, but mom had other plans. They loaded up and headed off. After they got down the lane, Grandpa suddenly veered off the road and headed down a steep hill. The kids seemed a little worried at first, but then remembered they were supposed to have an adventure today. Grandpa finally parked by the stream. Grandma, mom, and Krissy pulled out a blanket and began setting up the picnic. Grandpa and Ky unloaded the fishing gear. After a nice meal of fried chicken, baked beans, mac and cheese and Rice Krispy cookies, Grandpa brought the fishing poles over. He and mom and Ky loaded them up with worms and everyone headed over to a deep area in the stream. This was it…we were going to get to fish!! Everyone was lucky enough to catch a fish that evening. As the sun began to set, everyone helped load up. Finally, we were all on our way back home. Mom’s heart was happy and the boys were drifting off to sleep. The whole day had been an adventure…an adventure of a lifetime!
