I am frantically(!) sorting through/deleting/editing the too-many photos I've never gone through, and I'm currently at my 2015 trip to Sequoia National Park. Between me & my DD we took a huge amount of panoramic photos, both horizontal (landscapes) and vertical (trees and trees and trees). Some of the tree shots are amazing! (I'm in love with Sequoias, I must admit.) Then I had a thought - maybe I could do a vertical double-page spread (no gutter/lay flat), putting it sideways in the photobook so we can see the whole thing. Would this be too weird, to have to suddenly turn a book to look at a spread? Would you do this? Here's an example:
Well... the centerfold of a certain magazine kind of made the vertical layout a huge thing, so if it worked for them, why not in a scrapbook!
Nope, not weird at all! It will totally show off that tree and photo... all they have to do is turn it sideways! Perfect! I think it would really convey the height of the tree!
when she said gutter ... i don't think she meant your mind was sup'd to go there! i'd give it a try too. when you upload it (before you print/order the book)- you should be able to see in the preview how it will look. it sounds like a fun concept for a scrapbook! i would maybe have a backup page, just in case i wasn't crazy with the way it looked. why not also try having each panorama on the ends of a double page spread - with some journaling/white space or big typography/title filling the white area? if the two panoramas are at the right and left edges and the rest of the page is minimal - they will really stand out that way as well?
I would definitely go for it! I'm all about showcasing the photo in the best possible way and that is such a cool photo that you need to be able to showcase the "height" of it!
Okay - I'll try it! I'm also going quite cross-eyed trying to figure out which tree photos are best. We took over 700 photos in two days and they're all looking the same! I was thinking the same thing! bahhahhhaa! I think I get what you mean. Great idea!
I have a few children's books (no gutter here!*) Where there is a page we have to turn the book sideways to read. It doesn't bother us at all. And I remember a children's book like that from my childhood. *this time. No guarantee on next time. my angel is a centerfold....
I have regular photo albums where I have some portrait photos in "landscape" slots, so I have to turn the (heavy) album to look at those pics. You're just doing the same thing but with a scrapbook, so I don't think anyone will think it's odd. And TBH (and I don't mean this in a naughty manner, UNLIKE @Karen rofl), I thought about how a "turned" double-page layout really will be your centerfold: you'll know when someone looking at your album gets to that spread!
