It's hard to tell without seeing the papers, but the plaid background paper was blended with a gradient blue paper. It resulted in a softer background than the original plaid.

the background is created out of 3 papers with different blend modes (1 solid, 2 patterned grid & chevron)
I blended a bold darker paper with a lighter one and also played with erasing various areas in a third layer.
To create the yellow woodgrain I blended, from top down: beige woodgrain colour burn 100% red solid saturation 100% beige solid normal 100% To create the yellow chevron I layered yellow solid over black and white pp, lighter colour 100%.

Full supply list in gallery. Blending process: On top is gmiller-vacay-solid (dark brown) – ‘inversed’ layer mask applied and decreased opacity brush applied to allow it to show through in bottom third. Next was gmiller-vacay-paper (orange chevron) – ‘inversed’ layer mask applied and decreased opacity brush applied to allow it to show through on left side and in a line to mimic horizon. Used color blend mode to achieve similar color to photo. Below that was sahlinstudio-hello sun paper (light brown) – layer mask applied and decreased opacity brush applied to allow below layer to show through at top. Below that gmiller-vacay-paper (dark blue) blended, using pin light mode, with sabrina_p6 (light blue).
OK, I think I stink at blending papers, but I did my best. I blended 3 papers, used a brush on the edges of the top ones, and played with blending modes.
Ok, so I blended the kraft background to lessen the castle pattern and the other background is the black blended with a striped paper.
Blended four layers, 2 solid and same pattern paper twice all with slightly different blending modes at different levels of opacity
I used a patterned paper with trees for the base layer. Then added a blue paper using Overlay at 70%. The white paper is using Lighten mode at 50%.
It is definitely addicting- this technique! The right side has a solid background and 3 papers overlaid in various blending modes, the left has 1 blended paper.
