I have found numerous tutorials on how to separate a stroke (or other layer style) from a shape in Photoshop... but can it be done in PSE? I am using PSE13 and have been trying to figure it out. Maybe it is sleep deprivation, maybe it can't be done... does anyone know?

I wish I knew...I only know to click on the arrow next to the Fx, find stroke and click on eyeball to hide it, but that's PS :(

I don't know if this will work in PSE, but here's my trick that works in PS...
1 - Reduce the Fill to 0% on the shape you have stroked.
2 - Add a layer above the stroked shape.
3 - Merge the two layers.

Or you can just create the stroke as a separate layer instead of as a layer style... Just create a new layer above your shape. Then CRTL-click on the icon of the layer in the layer palette. This should put marching ants around your shape. Then while on the new layer go to EDIT, and STROKE (I think that's where it is, I don't have PSE, but that's where it is in PS) and then type in how big you want the stroke and it should be on it's own layer. :) Hope this helps!

It would depend on how the stroke was added to the layer. If you see the little fx in your layers palette, double-click that to open up your effects box.

Then you can just uncheck the box for the stroke.

Otherwise, you could definitely use the help that Lynne-Marie gave you.

I just duplicated the layer. The bottom layer kept the stroke and I made it all black. Then I removed the layer from the top stroke. That worked for what I was trying to do.

    Hope that makes sense!
