Since I got busy prepping for MOC, let's just use the books listed in this thread and pick one for our reading pleasure in February after we all finish scrapping our little hearts out this month! Lol! There are several that were mentioned that I think would be fun! So throw your vote in and see what we want to read together next month! Housebroken: Admissions of an Untidy Life by Laurie Notaro Before the Fall by Noah Hawley A Rule Against Murder (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, #4) Yellow Star Good Buy Girls by Josie Bell Red Rising by Pierce Brown Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankindby Yuval Noah Harari
I'm going to wait to vote. Part of me wants to vote for one of the last two on the list because I've just read them. But I want to read new things too, and to vote I'll have to go find out what each of the other titles is about. I'll get to that soon.
@michelepixels is Red Rising a stand alone? Or am I going to feel the need to read on in the series? You intrigued me with this one.
Nope, Red Rising is the first in a trilogy. I'm not feeling a strong urge to read the other two though. I let myself be distracted by Sapiens after only getting to chapter 3 of Golden Son (book 2). I'm a hundred pages from the end of Sapiens though, and do want to return to Golden Sun. It's just not the kind of book that grips me and keeps me reading I guess, but it's an overall interesting story line and I want to see how it plays out.
I can't decide on one! Housebroken: Admissions of an Untidy Life by Laurie Notaro, Before the Fall by Noah Hawley, Red Rising by Pierce Brown all sound really interesting.
Sticking my nose in here- Red Rising is really really good. However if I remember correctly it's somewhat graphic (violent) so be prepared. I loved the whole trilogy though! If your library doesn't have it the kindle version is 5.99.
I hope you all like Red Rising at least a little and I didn't lead anyone astray. I finished Sapiens finally and picked up Golden Sun again. I read another chapter or so and gave up. My mind kept wandering or I felt like I'd rather be doing something else instead of reading about violent battles. But I still wanted to know if Darrow succeeded in his mission! So I tried reading some GoodReads reviews. That was insightful. The series has very mixed reviews. But none I read spoiled the ending. Finally, I figured out a way to find out! Wikipedia! The entire series is summarized there! So now I'm satisfied and glad I didn't have to read through 2 more books to find out how it ends. I'm not sure what my next book will be . . .
Louise Penny The author of A rule against murder is really very good. Can't say I fancy Red Rising at all, but hey I am willing to be persuaded. I would love to read" House broken" though. So if "A rule against murder" does not get more interest I will change my vote to House broken.
I've just started Red Rising - seems interesting and well written - will have to check out the rest on the list - have only read Before the Fall (loved it!)
Looks like Red Rising is our winner for February. I will start a discussion thread in a few days so we can chat about it as we read or when we finish.
Sapiens was much much more interesting! I've returned both that and Red Rising to the library. I'll try to participate in discussion as well as my poor memory allows.
I started Red Rising on audio today - i usually listen at 2x speed but either the accent or language or world building in the book has made the start harder to follow (while cleaning and organising cupboards), so glad we have a month!
