This, I cannot seem to figure out. Help! I love dark backgrounds but tend to avoid them because I cannot seem to ever get the drop shadows right. They just don't show up. Tips? Tricks? Tutorials?

    Thanks!!!

I tend to make mine darker or lighter depending on the depth.

I usually just lighten mine. I play with the opacity until I think it looks ok. I tend to have lighter shadows that are closer to the paper. I lighten both the regular Drop Shadow and the Outer Glow, so they go together.

I also tend to use lighter backgrounds. Dark for me is wood grain or bright colors. I think it is just a preference.

I LOVE dark backgrounds! I tend to lighten my normal shadows also- I usually shadow at around 50% but often go down to 35 or 45% with darker backgrounds. My shadow color is almost always 2c1900 (brownish) and I'm a 45* gal ;)

I also prefer lighter or bright backgrounds, but sometimes I have photos that really lend themselves to darker ones. What do you mean by lightening the shadows? And do you use a different blend mode for dark?

I use the opacity sliders and then gauge the look the style and color of the shadow it as I work with the layout. Similar to Aimee... but I think mine are even lower in amounts. I think mine are mostly on Linear Burn... but I'd have to check when I have PS open. :)
