A few weeks ago I signed up for a local scrapbooking class taught by Amy Tangerine. I was so excited because this will be my first in-person scrapbooking class at a local scrapbook store! How fun would it be to meet up with like-minded women who love to scrapbook and craft as much as I do? I have been to crops, knitting meetups with strangers, and book clubs. I love to meet people who are just as interested in the hobbies that I love.

Meeting new people can be a little bit scary and awkward though. I wanted to make the process as painless and low-risk as possible. I needed some sort of ice-breaker. So I came up with the idea of a personal crafting calling card. That’s what I need! Some cute calling cards with my contact information to give out, to people I meet who I seem to get along with, and would want to be friends with. It’s pretty low risk. I give out the card and it they want to come to my blog, email me, or contact me on Twitter or Instagram, they totally could! And I won’t be heart-broken if they don’t.

So I thought about some of my favorite hobbies, and I opened Photoshop and dug into my Lilypad digital stash and came up with these designs.

I knew I wanted to print them at Moo.com because they have high quality thick paper, and they allow you to have as many designs as you want in the card package that you order. I ordered the rounded-corner “business” cards, except mine aren’t for business, just for fun!

When my cards came, I couldn’t wait to open them up!

They are every bit as cute as I had imagined they would be. The thickness of the cards really surprised me. These cards are hefty, in a good way!

Here are my six different cards all laid out. The back of each card has my little headshot, the “I craft”, and my contact info.

I think it’s safe to say that I love them lots! Now I can’t wait to go to classes, crops, and other meetups and actually meet some new people and give them my craft calling cards!

Here were the digital supplies I used from The Lilypad. Please keep in mind that most designers will only allow personal-use of their digital designs. In my case these are personal calling cards and not business cards. If you are actually designing business cards, I would email and ask the particular designer if she allows that type of use, and if not, if you could purchase an extended-use license.

Scrapping 9 to 5 by Kate Hadfield

Pins N Needles by Kate Hadfield

Non-Lilypad: I also used Techno Girl by Pixel Gypsy Designs (the white laptop in “I scrap”).

I love it when I find new ways to use my digital scrapbooking supplies!

Hiya! I hope you are having a wonderful day! I sure am!! Recently I was a spotlight member over at Studio Calico, as a member it was so much fun and I thought it would be a great addition here at the pad as well.
When I was asking the Pollys about this, right away someone nominated Kimberlee. Even though she is kind of new to the pad community, she has jumped right in and made a big impact! Her fun personality and amazing gallery made her perfect for our first spotlight member! So here we go:

Hiya sweetie! Tell us a little about yourself:

For the past two years, I’ve been a stay-at-home gran while pursuing my MFA in Creative Writing (just graduating). My MFA was focused on poetry, but now I’m working on a novel. I’m also enrolled in a M.Ed. program in Instructional Design because I’d really love to teach. My DH (Tim) and I have been together for eleven years and have been married for 7 1/2. I have a daughter, a step-daughter, step-son and two grandsons.

When did you start digital scrapbooking and what do you love about it?
I think I started back in 2004/05, but stopped shortly thereafter. I always stockpiled supplies, but didn’t start scrapping again until the end of 2010. I’d do a page here and there, but really started back up when I found TLP in October of 2011. I love digital scrapping because it literally leaves no mess (and my DH can’t tell how many supplies I’m hoarding). And with traditional scrapping, I never could put a page together because I was afraid to ruin my favorite photos or papers or embellies. With digital, there is no way to screw something up.

What program do you use for scrapbooking?

PSE 8. I have Photoshop, but I haven’t spent the time to work with it enough to be quick at scrapping.

Who are some of your favorite scrappers for inspiration here at TLP?

Christine (liahra)

Chantal (frillyspaghetti)

And Ana.Paula’s hybrids always blow me away.

I have more I could list… I just totally love the eye candy here.

How would you describe your style?

It is an un-style. LOL. I think I’m kinda all over the place. Maybe eclectic? I don’t know. I like to be messy, but also have a lot of whitespace.

What are your top five TLP products?

This is such a hard question!!!!!

This is the kit that made me discover TLP and every time I see it, I still love love love it…

And judging by how many times I use it…

If you could only use 3 types of products on a page what would they be (and why)?

1. Patterned papers… they are just totally versatile
2. Stitches… I just love them
3. Paint splatters… I think they just add fun/dimension to a page

What are your favorite trends?

Paint/ink on a page. I think there is just so much you can do with paint. Add a little or a lot and it could change the whole feel of a page. I’m in awe of the paper scrappers who use it well. It just seems so daring to do it with real paper.

Project Life. Mine seems to have stalled, but I love that people are still doing it and keeping up.

It isn’t really a trend, but photoless layouts are always a favorite of mine. I think it is the writer in me appreciating the story and the artsy feel around it. That is just one of the reasons I love Sara Gleason’s templates.

Outside of scrapbooking what other hobbies do you have?

Reading, writing, and painting/mixed media art

Favorite ice cream? (Just for fun!)

I’m not a huge ice cream fan because I’m always cold, but if I am going to eat it, it would be rocky road or soft serve vanilla.

Thank you Kimberlee!!!!! It was so much fun to get to you know!

Alright guys I have some MORE exciting news for you! Next Sat. I will be giving away a little hybrid starters kit! So please make sure you come back for that! To hold you over, here is a sneak peek!!!

Please note we pushed this back a week for iNSD, so check back next sat MAY 19th
