August Lyrical: Glee!

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

I’ve been somewhat obsessed with Glee for quite a while now. It’s kind of terrible TV, but it’s /so/ entertaining! And best of all, I love the songs! So here are the lyrics to As Long As You’re There, sung by Charice, who is kind of amazing! Hope they’re inspiring to you and make you tell someone you love them. :)

All my life I’ve waited for the right moment to let you know,
I don’t wanna let you go,
But now I’ve realized there’s just no perfect time
To confess how I feel,
This much I know is real

So I’ll refuse to waste one more second without you knowin’ my heart
Baby, ‘cause I don’t need anything else but your love,
Nothing but you means a thing to me,
I’m incomplete
When you’re not there,
Holding me, touching me I swear
All of the rest could just disappear
And I wouldn’t even care,
As long as you’re there.

Take these words,
Don’t let them go unheard,
This is me reaching out,
I hope you can hear it now
‘Cause, baby my heart said stay,
Take it, it’s yours to break
I’d rather try and lose,
Than keep this love from you, yeah

So I’ll refuse to waste one more second without you knowin’ my heart
Baby, ‘cause I don’t need anything else but your love,
Nothing but you means a thing to me,
I’m incomplete
When you’re not there,
Holding me, touching me I swear
All of the rest could just disappear
And I wouldn’t even care,
As long as you’re there.

Each day and night,
That I’ve kept this a secret,
It’d kill me; it’s time to share what I feel inside

I don’t need anything else but your love,
Nothing but you means a thing to me,
I’m incomplete
When you’re not there,
Holding me, touching me I swear
All of the rest could just disappear
And I wouldn’t even care,
As long as you’re there…

As long as you’re there…
Ohh…

Lyrical: Let’s Hear It For the Boy!

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

Hey guys… Jen here…. Ok, well as much as that song tends to pop in my head and I find myself singing the chorus ALL day long… that’s NOT the song I want you to think about for this Lyrical post.  Sorry… did I get it stuck in your head?  Oops.

With Father’s Day coming up in a couple of weeks I want you to try listening to this one instead… Daddy’s Hands by Holly Dunn.  I am going to apologize in advance for all of you who do not like country music.  Please try however, to put your disdain for the genre aside for just a brief moment so that you may really hear the lyrics.

While you are listening to this song I want you to notice what feelings surface within you and what memories come to the forefront of your mind.  After you listened… and felt… I want you to go scrap a page about the father in your life.  Perhaps your page will be about your own dad, someone who was like a dad to you, or father of your own children.  Are there any similarities in the person you have in mind and the “Daddy” that is being sung about?  Are there significant contrasts?  Write about them… tell your story!

Daddy’s Hands Lyrics:

I remember Daddy´s hands, folded silently in prayer.
And reaching out to hold me, when I had a nightmare.
You could read quite a story, in the callouses and lines.
Years of work and worry had left their mark behind.

I remember Daddy´s hands, how they held my Mama tight,
And patted my back, for something done right.
There are things that I´ve forgotten, that I loved about the man,
But I´ll always remember the love in Daddy´s hands.

(chorus)
Daddy’s hands were soft and kind when I was cryin´.
Daddy´s hands, were hard as steel when I´d done wrong.
Daddy´s hands, weren´t always gentle
But I´ve come to understand.
There was always love in Daddy´s hands.

I remember Daddy´s hands, working ’til they bled.
Sacrificed unselfishly, just to keep us all fed.
If I could do things over, I´d live my life again.
And never take for granted the love in Daddy´s hands.

(repeat chorus)
(repeat chorus)

March Lyrical: The Background Music

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Have you ever noticed how there’s always music playing for touching, exciting, dramatic, or even intense moments in movies.?  Where’s the music in our real life moments?  Can you hear the background music during your own adventures and moments… can you imagine what it would be?   For instance, (this is kind of odd)  when quietly reflecting on the moment that my youngest son took his walk down the church aisle to announce his profession of faith the song “Let’s Hear It For the Boy” (from the movie Footloose) kept playing in the background in my mind.  Now that’s what I hear each time I think about that moment. (It will get scrapped!)

If my life were a movie you would hear  the song “I‘m In A Hurry” by Alabama play quite often as I’m seen rushing from one place to another.  I hear it in my own head all the time during these kind of moments… but it’s good because it reminds me to slow down a bit.  That’s the kind of message I need to be reminded of on a regular basis… so I scrapped it…

(Come Find Me by Kaye Winiecki,  Tilt Templates Vol. 3 by Amy Martin, The First Year by Emily Merritt and Jenna Desai (retired), Engines Ready by Vinnie Pearce, Light Breeze by Jofia Devoe)

I instantly hear the lines “Everybody was kung fu fighting, those cats were fast as lightning…” as soon as I look back on the photos that I took of my little man at karate practice.  Now I’m not saying all the lyrics to the song fit the bill in every case… most of the time they don’t for me.  It’s usually just a line or two that gets stuck in my head.  Sometimes I just end up with my own interpretation of a song or partial lyrics from a song… the small part that fits my life as I see it.

(I Know Kung Fu by Jacque Larsen, Comic Relief by Jaque Larsen, Coloured In by Kaye Winiecki, Stripey Line Alpha by Kaye Winiecki, Scruffy and Stripey by Kate Hadfield, Cranberry Templates by Sara Gleason)
